Hello, I currently have a VZW Xoom 4G that I use as my tablet. The weight and size are starting to make me not want to take it along as a travel companion. Been looking at the smaller options on the market, specifically the 8.9, 7 Plus and possibly the 7.7 if it ever comes. I bought the Xoom at a great price and don't use the 4G as I use my Galaxy Nexus as a Hotspot.

In your opionion if you had it all to do over again today would you still get the 8.9 or would you have gotten the 7 Plus or possibly waited for the 7.7?

For me size wise I really like both the 8.9 and the 7 Plus. Both are worlds more portable than my Xoom and I'm sure I would be happy with both.

Pardon me for jumping in on your thread but I'm in a similar quandary except that I'm looking at both of these Samsung tabs after having returned my Nook Tablet when B&N pushed out the 1.4.1 update and locked down sideloading apps. I like features on both the 8.9 and the 7+ but I'm not sure I like the idea of not having an SD slot. I like the size of the 7+ for carrying around and reading ebooks in bed. The NT was a great size. OTOH, the 8.9 is a good size for surfing the web, etc. And then I've been reading about a Google tablet that may come out in 6 months. Oh, the dilemma of it all! What to do, what to do? :)

The 7 Plus does have a micro SD expansion slot. I like that since I can get the 16gb and add a 32gb card to it.

Right. I meant to add that that was a reservation I had about the 8.9. OTOH, I spent a lot of time today at Best Buy playing with both of them and I didn't like the gray line down both sides of the screen when reading documents and news stories.

As a former daily user of the original 7inch Galaxy Tab, I was really looking forward to the 7plus. But after playing with the 8.9 Tab I fell in love. It was the perfect size and it certainly helped that is was super thin and lightweight. If portability is your top concern though I'd consider the 7plus. I mean, I take the 8.9 Tab with me pretty much everywhere in a bag I bought for it. But the 7plus can fit in a large pocket. If I hadn't bought a Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch also then I probably would have stuck with a 7 inch form.

The 8.9 gets my vote. It's the perfect size and has great internals. It also feels like a big brother of sorts to the 7 and 7plus. I feel confident that Sammy will support the 8.9 (and 10.1, obviously) but can't say the same for the smaller ones.

i would never get a tablet with a data connection. Wifi or portable hotspot is more then enough without ANOTHER $30 data fee on top of things

In my opinion though, the 8.9 is a great device. Whether the wifi tegra 2 version or the ATT Snapdragon? processor. The 8.9 size is just a thing of beauty. My thumbs can type across it in portrait and lanscape without aching after a couple of minutes. Same resolution as a lot of the 10.1 tablets bu the smaller screen gives you a greater ppi. When i am holding the device up close like a tablet, i would rather have a slightly smaller (1.2in) tablet with a higher ppi.

Work gives me $100 a month for my cell phone, after our 25% discount and the hotspot I pay $7.56 out of pocket. So I'm okay with my unlimited phone data and unlimited hotspot data.

Personally, I would stay away from the 7 plus because of the low screen resolution(1080x600.) Both the 8.9 and the 7.7 have a 1280x800 display.

I owned the original 7in galaxy tab and the 8.9in tab is better in every way.
