Deciding between the razr and nexus

I will be pleasantly surprised if Motorola actually follows through on the commitment to upgrade our devices in that six week time frame. At this point, I don't believe they will be able to meet that goal.

As long as ics is available as a ROM I think I'd be satisfied.

I think a lot of people misinterpreted what Moto had said (me included). They will start developing ICS for their devices starting 6 weeks after it is released. Who knows how long it will actually take Moto to deliver a finished product.

I personally do not care. This phone is rock solid as is. Last thing I need right now is half my apps not working because they have bugs they need worked out with ICS...

Agreed, tried out the ICS Dev port on my Nexus S, and while its nice, its just like a pretty-fied theme for the most part.

I don't think Motorola is going to drag their feet on ICS. They know they can't screw this up.

Read it again my friend they will announce their plans for other devices at the 6 week point. The Bionic, RAZR and Xoom should have it by then. They are not going to sit on the code for 6 weeks before they do anything with it. That would just be stupid. Odds are they have already had it in pre-release form for the Xoom since it is the official reference tablet.

I think you are correct.

For me, I chose the RAZR because of the hardware materials Motorola used to build the phone. And I was impatient, LOL, and was already out of contract.

Now the screen and the CPU is just a tad behind the Nexus spec wise, and the OS is behind out of the box. However, I figured that the hardware will obviously remain the same, and the OS can be upgraded. With the premium materials used to construct the RAZR, this phone with ICS in a few months will be rocking!

Just my 2 cents.

Still plan to check out the Nexus though at the store whenever they release it. I wanna check out Super AMOLED HD

It would be a first for Moto to move that fast but I seriously doubt it. That means we'd see ICS on the Razr by the year's end? I'm calling shenanigans on that one. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

The Motorola Droid (first one) Got Froyo about 7 weeks after the code dropped so no it wouldn't. Also the Xoom got the Honeycomb 3.1 the day it was released. We shall see but people should not use this as a reason NOT to get Bionc or RAZR which is I think how this while thing started. Both devices will get it and they will be among the first (After Nexus S). Hopefully we can ally agree on that part at least

Droid OG and Xoom are both naked android without Blur overlay. THat's what delays software releases.

Oh I have no doubt that these phones will get it. Personally, I think anyone who doesn't get one of these phones for the sole reason that it doesn't have ICS on it is a little crazy. The Razr would be a sweet phone even if it was running Froyo.

Yes, I am well aware of that, but consider this: The EVO 4G actually got Froyo a week or so before the Droid 1 and it has SENSE the most elaborate of the custom frameworks (much more than a "skin") so clearly if it is a priority then an OEM and Carrier CAN get updates out faster if they want to. Costume frameworks DO complicate matters but they are hardly the only barrier to the update process.

Completely agree. The main reason I really care that much about updating older hardware to the newest release is the security patches and Google could shut people like me (and Jerry Hildebrand) up by simply back porting the security patches to at least one version of Android back (two would be better).

Exactly...not only that...

The Droid X1 got GB before some HTC phones too, and at least 1 with stock Android. And it got GB about a month after launching.

So the whole Motorola and support thing is overblown. At least for their high end phones in the US...lol.

Some "big" problems for RAZR for me, will wait to see if they get resolved and what Nexus has to offer. But the razr has a connectivity issue that has yet to be corrected, this is a killer. Then there is the battery issue and it does not have ICS. So, like others will have to wait to get off my Storm2.

I wonder of you have a defective unit? I've played around with several RAZR phones in three locations in the last two weeks and none of them seemed to have connectivity issues,

I realize that some of you have no real concern for this issue, but the fact that Motorola is an American company is one of the selling points for me.

Even though Moto phones are made elsewhere, Moto is the manufacturer. Google, in the case of the Nexus, is merely the retailer.

Buy American if you can!

Hope you remember how great it was biying American when your phone dies halfway through the day and no way to charge it ;)

Lol. I'll be sure to do that.

In fact I'll be sure to come back and let you know when that happens.
