Deciding between the razr and nexus

It seems to me that ICS is overrated and motoblur or whatever you want to call it might actually be worth having. Just consider the differences. Moto Droid Razr:

What looks like a truly amazing battery smart actions app which allows me to customize what my phone does based on time of day OR location OR both. Plus an app that lets me stream from either my work or home pc whenever I want to, wherever I am, including the option to move files or stream them whichever I want. PLUS an amazing laptop dock that turns my phone into a satellite lappy while it charges the much talked about but to me not feared unreplaceable battery.

With Gnex I can have facial recognition that doesn't always work, and even if it did, I do not want (I much prefer the protection of the encryption built into the razr combined with a secure unlock motion like I ALREADY HAVE on my OG droid. Plus ICS right now instead of in four months (or six months for that matter). Plus NFC to pay for things with my phone. As for NFC I have no desire to buy things with my phone, or to "touch" my phone with another similarly equipped phone and transfer contacts or files. I had this capability Palm 'beaming' years ago and found to be a party trick for the most part. And to be fair, GNex is more workable for custom roms, etc.

For me the razr hardware was already the reason which drew me to moto. Radio. Tough build. Gorilla. Kevlar. Water resist.

It is an easy choice for me. I think I can understand why others disagree, but for me ICS is just not that impressive, the higher res screen not noticeably better enough, and the wow factor of facial recog. or NFC just seem like fun but essentially useless additions to my real world. I LIKE the moto apps that are included (and if I don't, I will simply hide them). That's why I preordered a razr, and look about every day to check to see if it shipped!

Each to his/her own choice, just explaining mine.

This post helped plus my impatience; frustration, and practical side kicked in.

I was trying to wait for the GN. I finally saw the how to vids etc of the GN and I have to admit it didnt wow me like the Razr did.
What my final decision came down to was based on the reliability of Motorola build quality. The way the water resistant feature was explained to me was icing on the cake.
I got tired of the unreliability of my Droid Charge reception and the bluetooth.
Look the reason I switched from Moto to Samsung was because of the screens. Now that Moto has something in the same ballpark; hey.
I did get the Razr on release and decided to return it and try and hold out for the GN. But decided to go back to the Razr. Also I think the straw that broke the camel's back was when my Gtab 10.1 acted up again and I am having it replaced. Also something the salesman said something quite interesting. N believe me he left the decision up to me. But he said in his 6yrs with VZ pretty every high end Sammy phone on VZ has had issues call wise. Look all I have is a cell phone no home phone and since the Razr has some wow factor. Im going back to the work horse.
But I am not ruling out the GN but it has to do some serious blowing away.
I hope those that choose the GN enjoy their choice as well as I hope to enjoy mine...........

Strictly for using it as a phone ....I would strongly advise getting the RAZR. Samsung has had reception issues dating back to before Android came out.

On my RAZR, Droid X1 I could actually use my phone walking the halls at work. Droid 1 barely, Samsung Omnia 1 and u740 not at all.

And the Droid X1 had batter reception than my Droid 1....I swear the RAZR has better reception than my Droid X1. Sometimes it seems like it does, sometimes it seems the same....which isnt bad cuz the Droid X1 has very nice reception.

The Rezound is technically a better phone specs wise however if you are coming from a DX and like your DX you will probably like the RAZR better.

I have the Incredible and I'm staying away from HTC phones from here on out.

Well I will say this. The higher pixels per inch allows more on the screen. Cool but 50 ye old eyes ouuuuuuch. I would need a magnifying glass for the nexus......

Actually, there are portable chargers you can carry with you that will pass the charge over to your phone. That was one of my main concerns if I chose to get a Razr. So having a portable charger as well as having a car charger and spare ac charger for work means I should not really run into too much of an issue with battery life. I am an extremely heavy power user by the way.

Also, I agree about buying American. If I can buy similar products for similar price and similar quality, I would choose American most of the time (of course with phones, they each have their own "gimmicks"). Of course, maybe you're not American.

I thought about this when someone said the Rezound is the first phone where they can see words on websites clearly in portrait mode. They listed a Droid X1 in their previous phones.

Wouldnt words on websites look smaller due to the higher screen res? Wouldnt it be better on the Droid X1? I dont really know...just curious.

Had the Rezound for 2 days. Reception was worse than my Dinc. Very happy with RAZR.

I finally went into a VZW store today to look at the Razr. (I know, it's been a week and I'm just looking now) So I held it, went through the UI and tried the camera app. I love it. It passes my test. Also I didn't see any of the problems people have said about the screen. It looks crisp to me and I don't notice pixels or any of this PenTile stuff people are whining about. Maybe it's just me, but I don't LOOK for problems, I notice them if they are really there. Not calling a lot of people on here liars, just saying.

As of now there are a lot more 'yays' for me on the RAZR than the Nexus. But... I would like to wait for the Nexus to be released so I can see them both in a store and decide. But geez, if the Nexus isn't released by Christmas, I'll just get the RAZR and be happy with it.

The Razr was a nice phone. Just wasn't for me. I purchased mine on the 11th and there was no way I could get in that promotion to return it by Jan. Lame. So I returned the Razr, back to the OG droid for me. I liked the Razr, only I seemed to have issues getting a wifi signal when my thunderbolt had no problem getting a signal. Also my main complaint was the thing got so FREAKING HOT...

I had Droid 1 since first release days, ROMed the crap out of it. Went to Droid X with it's locked bootloader, ROMed the crap out of it. You'll be amazed at what development can be done even with the locked bootloader. At this point in the game, when the phones are virtually lag-free, why would you need to OC? With Droid 1, we all OCed and lowered voltage to get the speed up the phone while saving the battery. Currently, my non-rooted (until SBF file is posted) RAZR is completely lag-free with over 80% battery life remaining after 6 hours of light-moderate use. Yes, 4G active. Benefits of Motorola Smart Actions baked into the OS.
Motorola build is just better than Samsung. I don't think anyone would deny that. Same for the radios. Yes, I agree, Samsung will have better camera, better screen, better processor, and ICS. But, I think that ICS is a freshly baked OS. It will have minor bugs which will be fixed with updates. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ICS source file is massive, lots of new baked goodies built in. Gingerbread is a familiar system and it appears that Motorola (after many tries, including the Bionic) has finally hit on the winning combination of Blur and GB. My Razr has been completely lag- and freeze-free. When I bought the Razr, I was going to "rent" it just as many others. Just in 5 days, as my daily driver, it has won me over with it's ergonomics, looks, operation, and battery life. I can wait for ICS, either as an update or as a ROM. In fact, I'm relishing the thought that if the ICS update gets screwed up by Motorola or Verizon, I'll be always be able to SBF back to error-free GB stock ROM. I think once people would get past the WORDS "Blur" and "locked bootloader", they would actually see what engineering feat the Motorola team has accomplished both in hardware and software.
But,.. to each their own. I'm certainly not going to bash Rezound or GNex as a part of my agenda.

My local VZW store had the Razr and the Bionic side by side on display which made this comparison easy. I set both phones to the same bright wallpaper. I used polar clock under live wallpapers as it had a white background with bright colors for the clock bars. Then I set the display brightness to maximum for both, held them side by side and compared their whites and colors. After that I went back to display brightness and set each to automatic and again held the screens side by side. Wow! The white wallpaper on the Razr looked green-gray vs. the Bionic at the dimmer brightness setting- almost as if I were looking at the Razr screen through sunglasses.

The Razr was blazing fast on 4G download to be sure and I liked the looks and feel of it but I'm not sure I could live with the Razr display. I am out and about for long periods of time each day and almost always run my phone at a reduced screen brightness to conserve my battery life. Hmmm... decisions, decisions!

They will be upgraded to ICS. Also remember it's going to take a few months for the Dev's to get software to run on ICS also.

Not a major drawback.

What I wrote about my battery life (above), which is amazing, is with the screen at 80% brightness. This screen is very power efficient. There is absolutely no need to run it on automatic. Yes, at low brightness there are indeed green-gray undertones. At 80% it's pure white, even in browser pages.
We're all just used to power hungry LCD screens....

RGBW pentile will always have better whites. But I feel that the slightly dimmer background is easier to read especially in the browser with dark text on white. The Rezound is supposed to have the best non AMOLED display with the highest PPI but not sure of its performance in bright outdoors. Its heft and small battery does not inspire me. Still waiting for the Galaxy Nexus.

Is the Galaxy Nexus a RGBW?

I prefer the Galaxy Nexus also if it ever goes on sale.

And I agree about the Rezound - it's a huge fat ugly phone with an underpowered battery.
