Deciding on a case

Got the Spigen Rugged Armor Extra and used it for a week, after applying a bunch of grip tape to it so it wouldn't be so slippery. Was in Sam's Club this morning and saw they had the graphite color Speck Presidio Grip for only $30. Bought it immediately because of the price vs. what I'd seen online AND it is super grippy which is how I like my phone cases. Looks fantastic, too.

I realize having a case is necessary, and I've found the Ringke air (and similar) are a nice compromise for size and protection but I really love this phone in the nude. It feels so nice in the hand without a case. I wish I could trust myself to not drop it.

So I got two cases to start. I got the Spigen Tough Armor as my slimmer case when I need that and I got the OtterBox Defender which will likely be my daily. I have my phone with me in the gym so I need a more rugged case. Even though the Defender is bulkier I really like the feel, it's the grippiest case available and has the best lip protection

this is good to hear. I like mine grippy too. I have one coming from Ammy now but not for that great price. no Sam's membership here. I'm with the other guys.

Sams also has great prices on Otterbox cases too. When Amazon lowers the price on Otterboxes, Sams still has them beat or close to it.

I chose these 3, got them like 2 weeks to 10 days before I even got the Note 8.
The blue one is thick, great looking and great for work.
The black one is very thin, it's like a skin on my phone; very slick, great feel and look.
The white one is right in between. And has that cutout for the plate for my magnetic car holder.
All 3 look and feel great!

The flip covers look nice, but don't work well with me since I would have to constantly flip open the cover.

I went with this case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU5995740

It was cheap and I needed something/anything to protect the phone as soon as I got it. I don't mind the clear back. I just printed a photo and stuck it in there.
The downside to this case is the TPU material. I prefer white cases/devices, so dirt/oil sticks to the material and the white ends up becoming off-white.

I use the flip one occasionally, the Defender and the Caseology both quite often.

I just picked up the Speck Presidio Grip case in black. I really like it. I had these cases for my iPhone for years.

Returned my Speck Presidio Grip case and got an OtterBox Defender on sale from Sam's. I ordered a Commuter last night and will return the Defender once the Commuter arrives. I love the grippiness of the Defender, just not crazy about the hard plastic frame against the edges of my phone and all the ticking and creaking sounds it makes whenever I grasp my phone.

Is the Rugged better?
In someways yes. The Speck case didn't lay flat In the table and my rugged case does. Also, the rugged case has a kickstand. I liked the look and feel of the Speck case though. Also, the Speck case worked flawlessly with the fast wireless charging in portrait mode. The rugged case only works you me when I lay it flat.

The creaking of the Defender case bothered me as well.

Jist be careful with the commuter. If it's like the other recent samsung commuter cases, the back is very slick and it slides easily. I have the defender and r3ally like it, along with a Caseology clear with bumper, a Samsung black wallet case also nice, and a Uag Monarch which is fantastic

I've got some egrips grip tape on the way and will put it on the back. Egrips is by far, the best grip solution available with one caveat, it has to be applied to flat surfaces- can't go around curves or ends. I've been using it almost exclusively for added grip for about 15 years.

Nice! That can probably be used on any case to make it more secure. Does it still look good as well, with the tape installed?
