Deep scratch... crap

So I got my Captivate last Wednesday and yesterday noticed I had a couple of light scratches and a deeper scratch all in the same general area. The only thing I had in my pocket was my headphones so I guess the headphone jack is what did it. Of course it would happen the day they revealed that we have Gorilla Glass...

So lesson for all, Gorilla Glass can stand up to to nails, concrete, laser beams... Just not a headphone plug

Now for the dumb question, is Gorilla Glass warrantied in anyway? Kind of sucks that I've had it for a week and then something like this causes a big flaw (can definitely feel it with my fingernail and sometimes just scrolling down a webpage) but my fault for waiting until next payday to get a screen protector I guess (guess what I'm doing today?)

That really sucks. Amazing that a headphone jack would do it. I watched that video today where they took a machine screw to it with no scratches.

Wish I knew about the warranty. I'd check the docs that came with the phone.

What I've kinda wonder is if the Carrier specific ones have the gorilla glass or if it's just the official generaic Galaxy S model that has teh gorilla glass.

Either way, sorry doesn't help you, and I installed an invisashield on mine three days after I got the phone.

I would recommend deeply whiping it HARD with a cloth or shirt to see if that mark removes. If not, can you take a picture and post it? Im curious to see what this looks like.

no no, not a mark unfortunately, I've tried polishing it with just a rag and my Oakley bag. I'll try and take a pic tonight of it, there are about 5 pretty light scratches and one deeper one

ok finally getting around to posting some pictures of the scratches (time flies when you have 2 little ones running/crawling around the house).

hard to take pictures of them but it shows pretty well. And the only thing I can think about the headphone jack is that its got a somewhat sharp edge around each level, I dunno though.

could have been a piece of sand in your pocket - hard to say. What's done is done. You could try contacting samsung or AT&T as it should be way more scratch resistant then that.

usually they said that when you get screen protectors (invisi, skinomi, etc) they say that it covers up scratches that were already there. thats all i can really say to kinda help =/

yeah i ordered a skinomi protector and got it in last week but i noticed that even though it says it's not sticky on the face, i notice a large difference swiping my finger on it other than my phone. Anyone who has a Skinomi notice the same, or can say that it gets smoother in time? I haven't put it on yet in case i can find a better alternative and return this one

I'm with Aphrony on the screen protector. It should hide it enough. Just make sure its really clean before you put it on. As for warranty, you could always say that the GPS is broken... :D

I had some good scratches on my BlackJack II, but once the screen was lit up they pretty much disappeared.

As for the texture, I have a zaggskin on mine and while it isn't as silky smooth as the stock glass, it works just fine and has gotten smoother with use.

Wow, that is one heck of a scratch! Does the Captivate have GorillaGlass? I thought that they all had GorillaGlass. My Epic doesn't have any scratches on it even after dropping it and hitting the corner of a drawer.

Well I considered exchanging it but I bought it on letstalk.com. will at&t do warranty work on it?

There is conflicting info on the Gorilla Glass. I also wrote Samsung on the issue and got back this reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. Before we send the phone to the Service Provider that all products are tested.
We will forward your feedback along to the concerned parties for further review
Thank you again for your comments. * We hope that you will give us another o serve you Thank you for your understanding and patience.
