Just found out the default player is Google's Play Music, really? Just found something I don't like about my Note 8.

I use Pandora and I paid for the app that lets you skip endless amounts of times I've been able to create quite an interesting playlist :-)

If you don't like it, disable it. It's one of the first apps to get disabled on my devices since I use the paid version of Poweramp. Samsung has a built in music player called "Music" and I'll use it sometimes for simple stuff like previewing ringtones or notifications sounds.

I use Apple music though. It'll let me stream music I have stored on my MacBook, in addition to the subscription streaming.

I have been using PowerAmp for a while now. I like that you can set it to only go after certain folders for music. It's one of my must have apps.

And it has full on dark mode. Love it

If only Google allowed playing their subscription service via PowerAMP. That would be perfect.

Forgot all about Power amp!!! I bought it back on the Note 3 I think it was.

Lol, I didn't forget, I just figured I'd use whatever was on the phone rather than add something (trying that with a lot of things these days) so was using Google Music. After reading through this thread and hearing all the claims that PowerAmp sounded so much better than Google Music I put PA back on the phone and A/B'd the two and all I can say is WOW - they weren't kidding. PowerAmp is BACK, baby.

PS - I bought PowerAmp way back on my Note 3 as well.

I use rocket player, very simple and with isyncer you can use all your iTunes playlists. I have used Poweramp also and it's quite nice.
Google music is a giant streaming pile of monkey diarrhea. it has one redeeming value and that is that it can store 50,000 songs.

I use the Samsung Music App. Don't like Google Play Music and don't care for the others as the Music App does exactly what I need it to do

I agree with Iva.

My Google fanboyism drives me to love Play Music, and although it is my streaming player, when I really want to listen to music, it's the Samsung Music app and my trusty Samsung Level U Pro's when wireless, and studio-grade cans if wired. I was a PowerAmp user for years.

My former life as a performing musician has negatively affected my hearing. The Adapt Sound feature in the Samsung Music app is unlike anything else. It diagnoses my personal hearing imperfections and compensates for them perfectly. Of course, the Samsung Music app plays FLACS, my format of choice for when I am actually listening.

After a year of living with a Pixel, having these Samsung capabilities back (BT that actually works, Samsung Music app, Adapt Sound) is just awesome. Being without them living in my "pure Android experience" just plain sucked.

If you haven't tried the Adapt Sound feature, give it a go. You may never use anything else after that.

I use the same settings, app and wireless headphones. Sounds great for my ears.

I used to use poweramp 6 or so years ago and it was great but I havent found a reason to reinstall it. Samsung music works well for my needs.

Exactly!

I disable Google Music and go straight to the Samsung Music Player, it allows far more customization.

Yeah - it's real easy to just tag all Samsung apps as crapware. Between coming back to Samsung Music and Samsung Internet (my hands-down best browser) after a year in the perfect pure Android Pixel world, these apps are refreshingly awesome, and unbelievably capable.
