A contact of mine here in NC told me that the Nexus could be Delayed until December!!! He told that this has been going around the office. The reason behind it is that Verizon does not have any strong phone release for December and the Galaxy Nexus will fit in as a Top Notch phone for the month of December. November has the Motorola RazR and HTC rebound. I am still praying for a November release but it is up to Verizon.

Phil or BMX have you heard this?

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

I could be wrong but they didn't have a top tiered device that was released last december either.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

Well at least that they know of. For all we know the D4 could come out in December. I know everyone was talking about how finished and "ready for primetime" it looked when the leaked pictures made the rounds.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

Could make sense but wouldn't they just advertise the hell out of the big four phones they'll have for the holidays? (IPhone 4S, Raze, Resound, and Nexus)?

I don't think the Nexus is going to make as big of a splash if they just withhold it now. Thanksgiving week is a major shopping event. It would be stupid to hold the phone out till after it.

But the again it's Verizon...*sigh*

Im still hoping for week of the 21st(Nov) .
Then order it either online or pick up in store .

Again, like I've said before.....this should be a learning point for Samsung and Google when it comes to dealing with Verizon. They need to handle Verizon like Apple does.

Google has no leverage and Verizon said no to the GS2. Exactly what leverage do they have on Verizon?

There's no comparison to Apple. Apples sell the most popular model phone in the United States. If Verizon canceled the Nexus tomorrow most consumers wouldn't know or care.

Droid 4? So your "contact" said you could preorder the other day and now its delayed? Idk hoe much faith I put in you or your "contact"

I don't fault Preach2k, I honestly think there are just rampant and wild rumors at certain stores simply because they just don't know anything yet. Some stores know nothing of the Galaxy Nexus yet and that phone is only 2 weeks away, so I doubt they know about the D4.

QFT!!!! all the heavy phone Manufacturers need to promote their devices like APPLE does. We have seen this crap too many times and even the OEM's are fed up with it. Make a device, and negotiate a launch date BEFORE doing press conference for the device, market it.

I think it is completely asinine that the OEM says, "Ok Verizon we told he people about the phone (the hype is through the roof) now you pick a date at your leisure and leave the customers clueless which will make them lose interest fast!!!"

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

I can tell you with about 99% confidence the phone WILL be released BEFORE black friday. I cannot name the source, unfortunately.

So, those of you that wanted double data and the Nexus you will have it!

Verizon doesn't just wake up one morning and a mysterious new phone appears. There are negotiations with manufacturers. Apparently, Verizon decided they wanted the GN and most likely other carriers wanted it too so, biddings were involved and Verizon got it. So I would think this would give Samsung/Google some leverage when they signed contracts with Verizon. Also, people on here constantly compare the GN with other Android devices and it isn't a comparison. This is a unique phone in itself, like the iphone4s, because its the only phone offered right now with ICS and its the only line of phones that are vanilla.....so there are plenty of leverage points. Another thing that would help would be if Google would market these lines of phones better.

I know that, you know that, and people who read this forum know that. I'm the only person in an office of 100 people who knows anything about the Galaxy Nexus. Most consumers are clueless about this phone. Comparing the marketing brand of Apple to the Galaxy Nexus is a non-starter.

There's no pressure on Verizon to rush this phone out. They can sell it whenever they want.

There are just too many different Android devices to maintain any leverage against a carrier. Apple has one new phone a year and a ton of people desperately willing to buy it.

To the regular customer, and android is an android phone. Saying it's a pure Google experience means nothing, because many people's knowledge of google is google search, google mail, and maybe google docs. They do not have the history with Google to know that google makes an operating system.

Carrying the Galaxy Nexus isn't some big win for Verizon, it is a minor perk. Verizon could go to the other manufacturers of Android phones and purchase them. Or even they could start a push of Wndows phones. I would not be surprised if this was some kind kickback for Google backing down pushing for tough( or any) Net Neutrality rules on wireless broadband internet.

Agreed....but this is just a failure on behalf of Google for not having the brains to market their product and educate. They need to take their vanilla phone more seriously since this is how they introduce new OS's. This isn't just a new phone, its a new OS being released by Google. Verizon wanted the phone or they wouldn't had bid for it so I feel its kind of silly to think that Google/Samsung wouldn't be able to at least put a date of release in their contracts with Verizon.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

If you watch the video posted yesterday with the Samsung Exec this release is totally up to Verizon. He made it sound like Samsung is out of it and its Verizon Call.

It would make sense for Verizon to release before the shopping rush but did they make a deal with Moto about how long after the Razr they can release the Nexus?

I guess im in the minority. I believe that there is alot of people who are tech savay that buy Android phones and actually know the difference between Vanilla, MotoBlur, Sense, ect. I dont think there a great deal of just the regular consumer that buys android, like there is for the Iphone. I seem to remember an issue that came about earlier this summer, that had something to do with rooted users and the number was well over what anyone expected. With that being said I believe this will be the top selling Android phone for Verizon, and man i cant wait for this phone!

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

It's fun to read comments by people who suggest that Google and VZW are clueless. The fact of the matter is that highly successful multi-billion dollar corporations do everything in a very deliberate and specific manner based on massive amounts of research and experience. Everyone just needs to chill. Freaking out won't get the phone released any faster.
