Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December?

Yes, there is something wrong with how it is being launched.lot

The only thing I can say is look at 'how Apple launches a phone.

They have an event.
At that event they announce the device, the price, the pre-order date, and the release date.

Pre-order date occurs, people pre-order.

Release date occurs, people buy the phone/receive the phone.

All of this happens in about 3 weeks. At Google's event, we got a device announcement and THAT'S IT. Verizon offered a sign up page on their site and have not said a thing since.

There is most definitely something wrong with how they are launching this phone. Aspple, does it right, Google does not. .
sounds just like the Razor launch to me.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

I'll say this, whether or not you think they are releasing this phone "incorrectly", here's something that's an undeniable fact: the Nexus intro event in Hong Kong was three and a half weeks ago. VZW has yet to even provide a launch date.

Now for the opinion part: after an intro event, you have X amount of excitement about a device. It's only going to decrease with time. The more time between the intro event and the launch date announcement/release, the more the device is going to feel like yesterday's news. I'm not saying I feel that way, and I'm certainly still purchasing the Nexus, but in my opinion, they're screwing themselves.

Yeahhhh...but no one wants that (especially if the numbers coming from the stores this morning are true).

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

anyone ever stop and think that maybe they did their announcement to counter the announcement of apple's new iphone? and that doesnt mean they need to follow apple's method of announcing and launching.

it makes no sense for all three of these phones to be launched like this.. the only reason its happening is because the nexus(ICS) and its features were slotted to compete against a supposed iphone 5.

the Nexus will be out before the end of this month, I hope you whiners will then stop being so ridiculous... they said it would be released this YEAR. They never gave a date and regardless of your assumptions of how it should be marketed.. Verizon hasnt done anything.. and I'd trust the people in charge of this stuff @ America's #1 cell phone provider to handling this better then some impatient and selfish forum users who are apparently marketing whiz's.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

Anybody think the google event on the 16th has anything to do with the phone?

I'm not a marketing whiz by any definition of the term....just applying a little common sense. An intro event builds excitement. Why squander it?

I'm gonna guess it's more to do with Google Music.

But hey, maybe they'll slip us a little, "This will all be available with the Galaxy Nexus which launches tomorrow on Verizon LTE!"

Yea but it's obvious that they are capable o doing it if they wanted too. For whatever reason,it's just not ready.

That's all I'm hoping for!

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

That's true. However, the Nexus line unfortunately doesn't have near the brand recognition or demand with the average consumer that the iPhone does. As such it doesn't make for a good bargaining chip with VZW.

and why is that? Who's to blame for this?---------> Google!

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

I personally feel that one of the reason why Apple does so well with their devices is because they are excellent at marketing and bringing that product to the public. If Google is serious about their Nexus line of phones then they really need to concentrate on promoting the phone. They then need to pull together an organized public event for the phone and explain the features (what makes the OS better, camera better, processor better etc) then they need to give prices, a pre-order date and a launch date. But, before this occurs they need to get with the carriers and work these dates and times out so everything is definitive when the event is underway. They should never let a carrier dictate when their product is released because this exact situation that is going on now will happen. If a carrier cannot agree with the terms that Google wants, then they should go to another carrier that will. To put a highly anticipated OS like ICS in the hands of Verizon to dictate when it will be released is absurd. Hopefully Google will learn this. Maybe their CEO and board members should sit in the audience of the next Apple event and take some notes.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

First off its a lot more going on than just one phone per year. Also lte, they are definitely giving it to the right carrier.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

You know - it's amazing that people think that Verizon is worried about how a bunch of geeks care about the release schedule of any device. The Galaxy Nexus is going to be a low volume device that is not going to get a ton of advertising - I bet that the Rezound and RAZR outsell it by 5:1. Verizon has the best network nationwide by huge margin (and for most people that stay with Verizon it is the only choice). Regular people (not you and I) will either go online or into a store when their contract is up and buy a new phone with subsidy. For many, it will be their first smartphone and they will either rely on the sales personnel at a Verizon store or another partner (online or brick & mortar) or possibly a geek friend they may have. Also, not everyone wants a 4.3 or bigger monster in their pocket. They just want a phone that works so they can check e-mail, light web surfing, run a few apps and maybe to listen to some music or an audiobook. That is why there are still lots of sales for cheaper, smaller phones. Neither of the first two Nexus phones (1 & the S) were big sellers and the Galaxy Nexus will be no different. While all the geeks are planning on getting this the "normal" person doesn't care about ICS or Gingerbread (if you go up to the average person with a phone they couldn't tell you whether they have iOs 4 or 5, WP7 nodo or Mango, or what version of Android they're running). Since it's only been demo'ed and not officially announced it can't be late. It will come out when Verizon thinks it's most advantageous to release (and I'm sure all of their OEM hardware partner's are fully aware of what those plans are so they can coordinate their efforts). I think Verizon Android fans should be thrilled to have 3 high end handsets to choose - all of them have pluses/minuses - I don't think there is ever a perfect phone.

I agree. It was incorrect to announce the phone without a launch date. If they would provide a solid date i think it would calm a lot of people down. Looking forward to a phone is fine, but looking forward to a phone, with no end in sight is stressing me out.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

One of the reasons previous Nexus devices did not sell well was because they were not easy to get. The Nexus one was sold online through google and the Nexus S was only sold by Best Buy up until the Nexus S 4g came out. I can see the Galaxy Nexus being able to hold its own against the rest of the Verizon lineup just because you should be able to buy it anywhere.

Verizon is taking their time because they know the Galaxy Nexus is going to eat into the Razr and Rezound sales.

I see more and more people with larger phones, even women seem to be getting the larger phones over the other choices available. If they wanted a small phone they would get an iphone:-$

According to a friend at Verizon, the RAZR is THE phone for the holidays for them. They are putting all their marketing dollars to the RAZR. The nexus launch date is still not known even to the Verizon team at the mid levels. They really don't see the nexus as a top selling phone. The RAZR ( and a lesser extent, the Rezound) will sell a ton more phones than the nexus. That being said, Verizon doesn't really care what phone people buy, as long as they sign that 2 year contract. My guess is they will announce the phone and then release it immediately.

This doesnt surprise me at all.

They are pushing the Razr hard. Tv commercials are all over the place.

I think they will still release the Nexus soon but probably not push it until after the Holidays.

Re: Delay because of No Top Tier Phone to be released In December

If Verizon top brass do not think this will be a huge selling phone then why not just release this the same day as the Razr or Rezound?
