Delete Dialer Data?

I did dial manually to a land line. I'm not surprised we're different. As you've read some people burn 10, 20, 30% of battery within an hour of a call. This is going to be a tough one to track down and fix. There us a suggested fix out there through an app I haven't tried yet.

I'm going to say that i'm not to happy right now. I have just recently learned about this dialer crap. I had the first gingerbread ota and then got the second the day it was released. I could live with the voicemail icon a lot better than this. I worked yesterday 9 am to 7 pm. Typical routine is take my phone off the charger and put it in my case on my side and leave for work. I don't even mess with my phone until lunch. Well yesterday at about I would say 12:30 ish I wasn't busy at work and just took my phone out to, i don't know, look at it. no reason really. I noticed it was hot and the battery was down 3/4 based on the icon at the top. I immediately was like what is using my battery? I looked at the usage and there it was the dialer was like i don't remember but something rediculous like 80%. I rebooted the phone but by now my phone was done after the reboot were getting into yellow and then it was dead of course an hour or so later. I was so pissed. Now brings us to today. I was up and at church for media set up at 7:00 a.m this morning. Again took my phone off the charger and walked out the door. didn't use it for anything. well about 10:15 a.m go to text my wife and again phone was hot and battery was about 1/2 to 3/4 gone. looked at the battery usage and the dialer was again off the map with the percentage. I don't remember exactly but this is rediculous. So, it wasn't until i got home and started researching that I guess it has been an ongoing problem. I can not believe that I have to research and play with my phone like this for something so rediculous. I disabled the assisted dialer or whatever you want to call it and if it does the same thing tommorow Verizon and HTC will be hearing from me and they will do something. this is unacceptable. I would be ashamed to even have a phone out like this if I was them. Now, don't get me wrong I can deal with minor little things such as the voicemail bug but when my phone is going dead halfway through my day when I AM NOT EVEN USING IT. Unacceptable. Sorry for the rant.

Try this it should help.
- Download the App "Proximity Screen Off" (by Shailesh Soliwal).
- open it(see note below) and select the box for "Enable Device Admin" (give permission)
- "Disable in Landscape" selected
- "Enable during call only" NOT selected
- Both "Cover..." boxes are NOT selected
- "Disable Accidental Lock MUST be selected
- For "Timeout", we have 1 second.
- Press the "back" button on the phone
- Chose "Start Service"
This is the fix according to others.

I'm waiting to hear more reports on its success but thanks for posting the suggested steps. Have u tried it?

Regarding the percentages, Frank, you're mostly correct -- the percent listed is the percent of the percent used. i.e., your battery shows 20% used (80% left), and dialer shows 50%, this means that the dialer has used 10% of the total battery (50% of 20%). As to your claim of this being a non-issue, just a reporting difference, we most certainly disagree. ;)

As far as the dialer and GB is concerned, I've seen SIGNIFICANT EXCESSIVE battery drain since the second GB release. I'm talking 14-16 hours per battery charge on a regular day with normal use on the first GB update, to now less than 6 hours with the same usage over those 6 hours. I rarely make or receive any calls before 5pm, and my battery is toast at around 12-1pm daily. Dialer is always 35-50%, with no calls in or out. I have several batteries, and all are the same.

Absolutely horrendous update. Haven't rooted this thing yet, but as soon as someone comes up with a fix (VZW or devs), it's on like Donkey Kong.

Thanks.

I dunno... I just haven't noticed any battery life difference. But, I do use the Extended battery.

Saw this in an older thread and it is something I have always done. May be why I'm not experiencing the high Dialer usage issue (although it does show up under battery use from time to time, but it's always a very low percentage).

Open the People app (contacts). Hit Menu, then View. Under Options, uncheck all except the one area you normally store your contacts. In my case, it is just "Phone". I don't sync contacts to my Google account, just my mail. Could it be a sync issue/bug if you're syncing Google contacts? I say that after looking at the Dialer permissions (they're quite long), it refers to "read contact data, write contact data", also "acts as account authenticator, contacts data in Google accounts". Just throwing some stuff out there. :)

Interesting. I only have one selected in View too. Exchange, in my case, because I sync Google Contacts using Activesync/Exchange. I see the Dialer entry too but at low percentages, like you.

I have tried everything mentioned here to stop this problem from happening. I am trying the prox screen off now.
I have yet another replacement TB coming today. Actually could have gotton a Bionic, but there aren't any extended batteries available anywhere for them! You have to purchase a battery so I just as soon buy an extended. Anyway back on subject lol.
I like the TB for the most part. I have had the random reboots, loss of signal, and multiple factory resets and replacement devices, so this is the LAST chance. Call and complain, document your troubles and they will eventually give you another device provided it is a CPO. (I am holding out until someone sends back the galaxy nexus one when it comes out LOL)
I do appreciate and love that this forum is still active. Other TB forums have died out to us people who don't root our phones :)

I also select one group - google contacts. I have no phone contacts. I have an exchange account but it is unchecked. Still...all uncheck does is hide the contacts. They are there but not listed.

From what I've been reading I guess I should be happy with 7 or 8%. What I don't get using your explanation of how % is determined is why mine stayed consistently at 7 or 8% in a 16 hour trial with one 1.5 minute call to a landline in the first hour of test.

Has this dialer issue been a widespread problem for everyone that is on the last GB OTA? I have not upgraded to GB yet and this was the main reason that I have been holding off. I have read that alot of people have much better battery life and others have much worse which doesn't make sense. Have most people on the last GB update been having this problem? Thanks everyone for the help.

Try turning off syncing of Google contacts (under Accounts and sync). Reboot afterward to start from a clean slate and see if the dialer issue is still present. May be it's a bug with syncing Google contacts, which is something I don't do. Frank also said he doesn't either (just an Exchange account) and neither of us are experiencing the Dialer issue. The next step would be to try turning off syncing of Google Calendar too if you have that set.

I don't do it either, and I haven't had the dialer issue. You might be onto something or we might just have superior phones. :p

Your right I hope this replacement I just got is one of those! I never even set up a google mail account after this last reset and still had the dialer issue.

What is version 2.2.1 ?

I've noticed it too. I think whoever mentioned it happening after in coming calls might be on to something.

That's when I notice it too.

It might help if we come to a consensus on what about the Dialer entry is an "issue". Is the the fact that it's there at all? Or is it a certain value (i.e. above 2%, 7%, 30%)? Or, how long it remains an entry?

There are hundreds of reasons a battery may be unexpectedly depleted. How is it that folks are so sure their battery is getting depleted due to a Dialer entry in the Battery use display?

In the case of the phone I just got a replacement for, if I left dialer on overnight it would deplete the battery about 25%. That is actual downward movement (usage in states was 53%), compared to rebooting before bed and not having it running. The part that jumps when you open it is the keep awake part. Why should it need to keep awake and why can't I turn it off w/o rebooting? It is strange.

When I am using the phone quite a bit it doesn't seem like much of a drain, but then again it is if it does that overnight if that makes sense (no pun intended ;) )
