Hi. i think a ghost is inhabiting my phone or something :(

An alarm will randomly go off in the background, playing a file that doesn't exist once (custom ringtone) then go silent, it can take 2 minutes to several weeks before this happens again.

I generally keep the phone silent because I'm in a noisy environment and can't really hear it most of the time, but when i'm expecting a call, this issue is pretty annoying and I consider resetting the phone to be the backup for an emergency solution - so, what can be done to resolve this?

I have avast installed but it doesn't find anything

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen if you turn NFC off?

Thanks, I keep NFC off because i never use it

Is there no alarm set up in the clock app? Everything is deleted and cleared ?

The last alarm i had stored didn't match the timing of these random ringings.
Even if it was present, How would it play the sound of a deleted ringtone?

Yes that's pretty creepy. You can try a factory reset . Back up your device first before doing so.

Do you have any third party alarm clocks installed?

Maybe there was more than one copy of the ringtone on the phone?

Maybe the ring tone isn't fully deleted in the phone. But if it's not set to play that ring tone then that's weird.

I highly doubt the default android clock/alarm app would cache the ringtone. As mentioned, there is no alarms set and the alarm ringtone is different from the ringtone used for incoming calls.

If i search for the file name using AndroZip it can not be found.

How is nfc related to the alarm?

I suppose you can configure a tag to turn an alarm off or on?
But i don't have any tags...

I am just curious how it could play a ringtone that was deleted

This part i can not understand.

Nope. never was.

I asked this in case it actually wasn't an alarm, but rather that odd NFC notification tone that the phone might make if there's something with an NFC chip nearby (like a credit card or other ID card).
