Deleting/handling multiple emails

Hi everyone, this is my first post at AC so go easy on me...

I was a dedicated BBerry user before switching to the Droid. One thing the BBerry had that I always liked was the "delete prior" option that made cleaning out your inbox real easy, with one click you could delete all the emails before a certain date/time. Is there any way to do this in the Android email app? Alternatively, is there a way to "select all" and delete? Any info would be greatly appreciated...thx.

I as well am a Blackberry convert and also miss being able to delete multiple emails. Looking forward to a response.

Former BB'er here as well.
After having my Droid for 4 weeks now, I've encountered the same problem. The one way that I go about this on GMail is by checking the multiple check marks that I want deleted, and go from there.

But if anyone knows of an easier way, please chime in.

yeah i think that is the only way to delete multiple messages is to check the box beside it. I miss that option as well

I'm hoping it's a feature that they roll out in one of their updates. Not necessarily in the upcoming December 10th/11th update but shortly thereafter. Obviously it's not a critical update but it would definitely make the Android platform a lot more user friendly.

same here the way i handled this issue was by going onto my actual pc deleted all my messages then there were no message to load on my android hope this helps if they decide not to come out with a feature like the bb has

I'm not sure how simple that would be. All mail from GMAIL is threaded thus potentially always attached to another email. If you say "delete prior emails", you risk losing email threads which is one of the benefits of gmail.

Yea this is pretty annoying. Especially because I get a bunch of emails to multiple gmail accounts. So I have to check multiple emails, mark as read, then you have to select "deselect all checked", so you can hit the "accounts" button and switch to a different gmail account. Super annoying.

being able to select multiple messages the way it's done on the storm would make me happy.

all i want to do is be able to quickly delete like 4 or 5 emails.

Multiple email deletion possible on default Android mail app. HTC Hero, Android 1.5

I wasn't sure if folks were talking about the gmail app or the imap/pop mail app. Both versions allow for selecting multiple emails for mass deletion.

The regular mail app also allows for "select all" and delete. Coming from a Blackberry it wasn't immediately obvious how to do this and I thought I had to long-press each email and delete individually but that is not the case.

In the mail app, when you have a list of unselected emails, press menu, then delete. The screen will now display the emails with a select box to the right for marking individual/multiple emails for deletion. Press menu again and you can select "Mark all".

When I go to "Trash" file of my pop3 email, clicking on 'menu' brings up:
*Refresh
*Compose
*Folders
*Accounts
*Account Settings

There is no selection for delete.

Any suggestions?

You have to select an email (check box on left of email) and you'll get a set of three new buttons on the bottom:

Mark Read
Add Star
Delete

This doesn't seem to work. After menu press there is a "Deselect All" but no select all.

Doesn't seem to work. hmm.. poorly thought out, but seems like an easy fix.
Not surprisingly, my Blackberry handled these email tasks flawlessly.. even on the notoriously glitchy Storm. I assume it will be fixed soon.. but annoying for now. Any work-around apps coming?

lol, as you can see this place is great about not flaming the hell out of you...great people on here for the most part. there is at least one other thread on this as well.. I would love to see a resolution for this as well.. I have about 200 emails to delete out of trash.. lol, I guess you could always just go on your pc and delete them as there is a select all button on there.

but they will still be cluttering your phone.. i think.

no, your email is directly connected to gmail. what you do on the pc will immediately change what's on your phone.

Yea that's one of the coolest things about gmail on this phone. I can do whatever I want on either my phone or desktop and see it realized on the other.

sorry.. to clarify, I have an additional email, I believe a POP3 account, that does not sync actions back to the phone. So if I bulk delete emails on the desktop/web, it will not bulk delete on my phone. For gmail.. that's good to know. So, I guess for non-gmail we are still stuck. :o
