How are yall insuring your device - Samsung Premium Care, Square Trade, Carrier, Other? Until now, I've been on AT&T Next so I used their insurance. Now that I've gone unlocked, I'm going with Samsung's. In your opinion, is there a better option?

They(Samsung) don't cover loss or theft. At least not in South Africa. This time around I see they have gone back to 24 months cover with a once off upfront "registration" fee of R500(about $35. 00) and most likely limited to one claim in the period.

I added a plan via T-Mobile, not sure what it's called but this is what the rep told me via Twitter

Are you wanting to add insurance so that you can protect your investment? It would be 15.00/month for the Note 10 plus and it would cover if the phone was lost, stolen or damaged in any way and it also provides a lifetime warranty.

I think I may change to AT&T. Their terms say you can BYOD if it's activated with them. They're $3 less per month and cover loss/theft.

I never take insurance since they are worthless to me as I don't keep any device more than few months. Even if I keep the amount of money I have saved not paying phone insurance over the last decade itself covers a few new phones if ever something happens to my phone. And most phone insurance have deductible as well so not that much useful to me.

I use TMo insurance for my iPhones, but only because it includes Apple Care. I don't get insurance on my Android phones generally.

I've never even considered not having insurance. Yes, there's a deductible. I need to look into the cost of having a screen repaired in my area because that's really my biggest worry. May be the same or less (or a little more) than the deductible.

Malfunctions are covered by Sammy's warranty, and I only use my devices for a year anyway. I have to do a little digging to see if insurance is really necessary for my needs. Over a 25 year period, I've gotten 2 replacements with deductible. Quick math: Say $9/mo average insurance cost for 25 yrs = $2700. However, I'm of the better safe than sorry sort. Idk...

I've only ever used the cell company's insurance. Sometimes I feel like it's a waste because I've only ever had to use the insurance maybe twice . I just feel like the one year I don't get the insurance that's when I'm really going to mess up my phone.lol

I haven't used insurance in about 5 years , I'm careful with my phones and figured if something happened I'll pay out the pocket as I saved over all these years .

Samsungs premium care is asurion, same as what Verizon uses.

Oh ok. I last used them for my N3 a day before Thanksgiving. A grocery bag split and cans rolled under the car so I got in to back up. Idk my phone had fallen too and I guess I kicked it. #CRUNCH Rushed over to Sprint and received a new N3 on Black Friday. Was so impressed with the service.

With the price of fixing these new screens being so high I'm sure the deductible is much less. A lot of carriers have lower pricing for screen repair and higher cost should it be lost or stolen.

I usually go with ATT's insurance but this time I went with the plan Best Buy has, their $60 screen damage repair sold me on that.

right now I have insurance through TMobile but we are going back to Verizon ...and we will use their insurance.
However before we switched to TMobile we would always get our phones and insurance from Best buy and we would only do that for the insurance because the geek squad plan was always better imo

FYI, if you get the Uber Visa credit card and use it to pay your cell phone bill, they'll offer you up $600 of insurance with a $25 deductible and two claims per year. And they do cover theft of the device. It's only enough to cover half the cost of the actual device, but definitely more than enough to fix a cracked screen.

Phone insurance has only recently become available where I live. Totally unreliable. I'm just very careful with my phones. Especially since I dropped my Galaxy S3 badly cracking its screen back in 2013- 2 days before I was going to sell it 🙂

Yeah, often you can spend $20 at Amazon on a case and screen protector, and avoid $15 a month in insurance.
