I went ahead and ordered the International version of the Galaxy S II off newegg for $600 since the price dropped a bit since the US announcement. I was hoping for the 18th but it seems like it is possibly pushed back til October so I pulled the trigger on that. I am going to use my upgrade on the next iPhone and sell that for a quick profit and pay off the Galaxy S II.

It really does suck that AT&T is missing this window of opportunity to probably get some more sales out of the device since it sat nicely out of the next iPhone's hype but I am pretty sure the Apple invitations are coming out soon and the Galaxy S II is going to the back burner.

do you think ATT will detect your IMEI number and give you the smart phone data plan? and if you think you'll be able to not get caught, is the non smart phone data plan throttled?

I have a white Nexus S with AT&T bands and also have a 2GB data plan with them so I cannot answer your question about getting caught. It might not because the IMEI isn't for AT&T so they probably don't know if it is a smartphone or not.

I am pretty sure the Nexus S runs on AT&T's 3G, not HSPA+. Correct me if I'm wrong

i'm not sure but you're probably right. my biggest reservations with ordering the international version is
1: getting caught and paying for the smartphone data plan- i'd be out $400 bucks.
2: being throttled on the unlimited "feature phone" data plan and not being able to get H+ speeds.

The Nexus S is only 3G so it doesn't see the H+ speeds. I also have the ATRIX 4G but it gets the same speed as the Nexus S because I guess the 'enhanced backhaul' is not set yet.
