i received my blu yesterday, the phone will not recognize my at&t sim card that is in my g3.with my phone still being under contract is that the reason or is there something else going on?thanks

We bought the R1 HD for our son for Pokemon Go. The lack of gyroscope for the games AR support was minor, but that's just an unneeded battery drain, imo, so wasn't an issue.

Being said, our review of the phone is fairly positive. Battery lasts about as well as my wife's Galaxy S6 Edge+. The ads are easy to ignore. The WiFi range does seem a tad lower than the range on my phone, the Galaxy S6 active, but not sure that's enough to complain about given the price of the phone.

Biggest complaint, which comes from use of the phone with PGo, the GPS signal does seem to go in and out and sometimes the app has to be re-started. That could be the app and not the phone, but since he and my wife are playing simultaneously and her phone isn't have the issue, we want to blame the phone. Only a few hour long excursion, it'll go out maybe once, twice at most.

Beyond that, as far as video, camera, and app support, it has ran fine. No real slowness or anything. The lack of the quiet time feature is a small bother, but since it can be automatically powered down and up at a certain time, that works just as well, if not better since it's for a youngster.

I've had the R1 HD for a few months and really like it. I already had a BLU Life Pure XL, so have been a BLU fan for a couple years. I've been a big phone user for awhile, and took the chance on this for the sake of having a smaller option when I need it. I got the 2/16 gb version and find it quite smooth and quick compared to more expensive phones. The ads are nothing and hardly noticeable most of the time. It has great signal strength, both cell and wifi, and usually has OK battery life. I use the battery saver mode most of the time, since it doesn't seem to impair the performance much and I am willing to make the trade-off in favor of battery life. I just got the "band 12" software update and though I'm an ATT Gophone customer right now, I have been with T-mobile in the past and if they improve their coverage for my rural area, I'd go back. Maybe band 12 will improve that issue. The reason I'm posting is because of a wierd battery behavior my R1 started to display as soon as the update the other day. After the update finished, I charged the phone most of the way to full and made a couple calls and then set it down. It dropped from 88% to 48% in like 10 minutes and showed the abrupt drop in the battery usage graph. I also noticed irregularities while plugged in. Sometimes I can plug in the charger and look in a half hour and the % is down rather than up. I also had it sit at 82% in the airport yesterday for nearly an hour while I was using it the whole time. That sort of thing would be great if it was consistant. I called the BLU support number today and they listened to what I told them and eventually said to do a 'hard reset'. I'm not in favor of that and will hold off in hopes of the ghost leaving the machine. Just wanted to let folks know the update may have a negative side effect where battery life is concerned. I will keep tabs on mine for a few days and post an update on it's behavior. Just a PS to make it clear I have many of the pre-installed apps disabled and watch what runs in the background as much as possible with a 'Clean Master' app.

did anyone buy the new BLU R1 HD? I bought the 16gb amazon version and should get it tomorrow. I would be curious to know what others think about this phone, whether you bought it or not.

I bout the phone about 3 months ago from Amazon prime and just last month it won't let me pick up calls. I have to wait to and miss a call and call them back. Idk what it is but it's bothersome that I have to look at a blank screen. Other than this issue the phone is great. Even with all the ads. But if anyone has resolved the phone answering problem please let me know

Got this for my 10 year old as a wifi only device since my old SII she was using finally died and she was tired of her Nabi Jr and wanted something a bit more grown up. We're not Prime members so I had someone else buy it for me. I've since read that you can only buy one of these at the discounted price per Prime account. We've had it for a week or so and it's been great. It's easily worth the non Prime price, but that extra savings is nice. I was surprised by how comfortable the phone was in my hand. I really like the feeling of the back cover. The battery life has been much better than I expected. The camera is great, especially for what my daughter uses it for. I'm really impressed with the app compatibility. She doesn't run anything too heavy but I'd been using an app called Dinner Time to manage what she does and it's been working great on this. It lags a little after its been used heavily but I turned on the developer options and reduced the animations and what not so the whole thing is a lot snappier now. She's not annoyed by the ads but she's annoyed that she can't see her own background on the lockscreen. She does seem to have gotten over it already though.

When it comes time for my daughter to get cell service I'll definitely look to Blu and Amazon for something similar.

So a quick update and question. The phone has been performing really well. I haven't noticed any lasting lag that a reboot won't fix. My daughter has installed and uninstalled several apps and it keeps chugging with no issues. So overall I'm really pleased with the phone and so is she.

I did notice one issue that's more an annoyance than anything else. Thought I'd ask here since this is the liveliest R1 discussion I can find. For some reason the screen will randomly turn on. This happens whether it's charging or not. I originally thought it was just when it was charging because that's when I see the phone most. I would walk buy after it's been charging for a while and notice the screen was on. I figured it was just the phone letting us know it was fully charged but then I started noticing it would happen when it wasn't on the charger. When it's not on the charger the screen eventually turns off but if it's on the charger it continues to stay on. If I manually turn the screen off while it's charging it eventually does it again. If it IS just the phone saying it's fully charged then this makes some sense to me since it would go on when charged then start going down, then recharge again and repeat. Only problem is this doesn't explain why it does it when it's not charging. Has anyone else noticed this or something similar? It's causing the battery to drain a little too soon when it's not charging and, like I said, it's generally just annoying.

Just a guess, notifications? Do notifications pop up and then fade off, perhaps leaving the screen on for it's preset auto screen off duration setting??? If so, see if there is a way to turn off notifications popping up visually?

I'm getting same phone Tuesday.

So it's still doing it, which isn't surprising since I haven't changed anything. I have most of the app notifications off and I'm not seeing any other notifications pop up when the screen comes on. So 6-7 months later we're just living with it. If this were my primary device it would bug the hell out of me if the screen was on all night on my night stand. Every now and then I try to troubleshoot it but always fail.

Otherwise it's been a great device so far. My daughter filled up the internal storage with apps pretty quickly but has learned to remove ones she doesn't use. She also figured out Skype so she has some limited texting and calling ability. The edges of the screen are scratched to hell but the majority of the screen has held up pretty well. My daughter's only real complaint is that she can't buy any of the cool cases she sees at stores and the Amazon options are pretty boring. But she's making due with a plain translucent purple tpu case.

I figured it out! Daydream mode. Don't know why but it was set on by default. So every time the phone went into sleep mode Daydream mode took over and turned the screen on. Turned the setting off and now the screen doesn't turn on when it's charging or just sitting idle. Thanks for the suggestions. It kept me searching the settings to see what they all did and I stumbled on it.
