Did anyone keep their phone?

Doesn't it seem kind of crappy that you have to had kept the phone? I sold mine on Craigslist so hopefully the guy I sold it to gets the coupon but for original purchasers it seems silly. Why would they buy a second phone? I wish essential would offer a $200 refund
Yeah it would have been better if they just refunded the original buyers $200 if they haven't returned. I think they just want to increase the sales and just throwing a bone to original buyers so that they can get one more to their spouse etc. But yeah situation like yours where you sold the device to some one else it's a bummer.

I think it's economies of scale. They are looking to just sell enough to break even. I originally wanted the white one and settled for black because I was tired of the delays ;) not that it matters I picked up a pixel 2 but if I got the coupon I may have grabbed a second one.

Heck, I'm still curious how they plan to prove or disprove who still has their phone and when it was purchased. The online form doesn't ask for a purchase date, order number or receipt. That means they'll have to manually check each SN/IMEI combo for where and when they were purchased, then determine if the unit in question was returned at any point. What happens if you purchased something like an Amazon Warehouse return that was flagged as a return and sold as open-box, but you're now the rightful owner? It sounds like a lot of work.

Same here. I now have both a black and white sitting on my desk. Just proving I was an early adopter on day one and currently own two phones should be enough to get at least $200 back if not $400. Having to return one just to repurchase it cheaper is a hassle.

At $499 you can have both colors for almost the same price as a 128gb Pixel XL or Note 8.

Was looking for a newer Android phone running the latest hw while waiting on a VZW Elite X3...I am usually on a Windows 10 mobile device. VZ has nothing going on for Windows mobile so the Elite X3 is something a lot us are anticipating...
I picked up a Pixel 2 XL from VZ off the trade in but returned it the next day when I saw the Essential on sale. Got the Essential phone off Amazon unlocked and works great on VZ minus the default baked in Visual VM. I like the size and build quality, the screen is nice yet I prefer OLEDs the LCD is bright when needs to be and produces colors better in my opinion than the Pixel 2 XL. I might hang on to this and see what newer fw and updates they send to it but am undecided still.

There should be another FW drop soon with quite a few updates plus we should see the public beta for Oreo open up anytime now.

I read that. Maybe by next week? Yet the developer community is still awaiting images.
