Did Google just completely forget about raise to wake?

I totally miss this function on my Pixel. Was chatting with google support, he mentioned will be included in the next software update. I hope they do. Wonder why they removed this functionality.

I never realized how much I miss always on display until I got a Pixel. I thought it would at least have a raise to wake function (like in past Nexus phones). It's really annoying that the only way to see the time and notifications on the phone is either by fingerprint or pressing the power button... hopefully they can fix this in a future update.

It's in the dev preview for 7.1 on my 6p in the moves section. It's not even an option on my Pixel. Kinda weird in my opinion.

Would the same thing also be true for my Nexus 5x then on 7.1? If I disable ambient display will I see a significant boost in battery/better doze?

Always on Display Amoled beta is one I am trying. It is a bit glitchy and I just went for having the time and date on the black off screen and that works well. Some of the other things don't work or work sometimes. But just having the clock there is a big deal to me. If you double tap in the center, it brings up the lock screen unfortunately, and you have to either use fingerprint or pin or whatever to get past that. But even so, I like the app's time display function a lot.
Thank you for recommending this app. I like it a lot.

There is a setting on the pixel to turn the screen on when you raise the phone. Is under the section "moves". I've been using ambient display since I got my 5X on day one, but I have to say active display on the og and 2nd gen Moto X I had was better.

I don't have it under moves, only swipe fp reader for notifications, jump to camera, and front/rear camera switch

I thought the Pixels had an Ambient Mode like the Nexus 6p? I've watched it in a review and like the 6p it shows you when you pick it up. No? Or am I missing something here?

As stated by others, no it doesn't.

I know android wear isn't for everyone, but I always wear one. It helped alleviate my need for Moto Display and from the double tap my OnePlus One had. I still use the double tap on my Priv, but only because it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor.

This is my main complaint with this phone. I'll see how this goes this week in my meetings at work but I don't know if this is going to work for me. Looked at my notifications all the time by just pressing the home button while in meetings. Not liking not having the notification numbers on the apps either but can deal with that.

YES! Commented about this in another thread earlier. Not being able to wake/unlock the phone without lifting it is seriously bugging me. I like being able to leave my phone on the table next to me during meetings & discreetly check/respond to msgs without having to pick up my phone. Trying to see if this is going to be a deal breaker for me. Haven't used raise to wake before, so not sure if one of the apps mentioned would be a solution. I am required to lock it due to my company's security policy.

Get the led light manager and use the lights to tell you what's going on, I've never had the aod until the note 7 and this is how I used to set up my phones to be able to visibly detect what notifications were there...

Had no idea this wasn't included in the Pixel...something I'd come to love on my iPhone and Nexus 6P. I do wear a smartwatch so this helps mitigate the issue a bit but it's still such a nice feature to have. Guess I'll see after a couple weeks with my Pixel XL (arrives tomorrow :D) if I really miss it.

maybe because google rushed with Pixel in wake of samsung fiasco?

I think they are gonna provide that feature in an update
