Last night I installed the Gbread rom from here
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...thout-flashing-new-rom-wiping-your-phone.html

It installed just fine... but today I found I couldn't get Hotspoting to work... tonight I wanted to change to
Decks Gbread rom but when I when to boot into recovery all that would come up was Power off, Airplane moade and Restart...

What?

Did I goof up Royally? And, what's my easiest way back "home" if I did... not sure I can recall dip about rerooting... arrrgh.

TIA.

Stock rom doesn't give the option to boot into recovery from there. You have to power off the phone and then hold Volume Down + Power Button at the same time until your bootloader pops up. Let it scan (make sure you don't have a PC36IMG.zip on your card) then select recovery.

However I believe there is a hack on xda to unlock the hotspot. I don't have the link but I'll give it a look and post back

Edit: Ok the hack won't work on that rom because of the way you got it. It has to be the DEODEXED rom. Because you have the OTA version, its odexed. If you want to boot into recovery from the option after holding the power button down + hotspot unlocked then try the custom versions that are coming out.

Here is the link if you want to have a look: [HotSpot Hack] Enable Hotspot on Gingerbread - xda-developers

Huston, how big of a problem do we have.

I didn't think I had PC36IMG on my card...but I did...and yes, like a good little boy I followed all your other instructions (Smokecrawler).

When I rebooted to "Welcome to PC36100 I ...

Probably, got myself into even more trouble when I:
1) powered down
2) removed my SDcard from the unio
3) removed the wonderful PC36IMG
4)installed the card
5)rebooted to recovery
6)did all the usual - cleared everything - then ran decks rom and his gapps zip
7)rebooted to a sadly familiar "Welcome to PC36100

Additional suggestions?

TIA

Its alright that you had it on there. Why I said don't have on there was to keep you from accidently accepting it. You could of selected no.

When you say you rebooted to Welcome to PC361000, are you talking about the bootloader? White screen with androids on skateboards.

After installing the rom/gapps and rebooting it sent you back to the bootloader?

When I originally powered down with the volume control as you suggested (which would only work if I was unplugged from everything), it came to the screen with the option for recovery. I chose recovery. This took (and always takes) me to my ClockworkMod app. (I'm running an old one - something like 1.3.something)

There I wiped all, then manually chose the new GBread zip and then the gapps zip and then did a reboot... (i.e., I never manually asked for PC36IMG and don't think I got any messages about it until reboot).

On reboot here was the PC36IMG (the screens preceeding it weren't the skateboards - it was just the repeatedly flashlight-scanned word ANDROID - then a jump to the "Welcome to PC36100" screen.

Thankfully (I think) I do have a Nanroid backup from just the other day.

Since this mess up, I tried loading it (which worked and took me back before this stuff). But THEN, I thought, "OK, I've erased all the PC36 stuff from my SD card, so if I'm back to where I was last night, I can go ahead and wipe, and load th new GBread and gapps again and I'll be golden..." But, no... when I did that, it somehow put PC36 on again (but it's not on the SD card as best I can tell).

Does this mean, my GBread zip somehow got corrupted from before and I need to erase the one I have and copy it back over and load it to get GBread up and running? Or, do you think I have another PC36 hiding on my SD card and that's still being loaded instead of my GBread zip?

TIA

You power off the phone first then when the phone is off you hold the volume down + the power button. This will take you to the bootloader. Since you have clockworkmod recovery then you can use the rom manager to get to recovery.

Did you download the rom/gapps from rom manager or from the dev's site?

Hey jtiis after you flashed Decks rom and gapps zips you said you rebooted then let it do its thing right.

When you booted up you saw the "HTC eVo 4g" splash screen then it went to the boot animation that has just "android" then got to the welcome to screen?

If so... you just didn't go far enough!!! You go to the welcome screen and go through the whole adding your Google account, Facebook account....

When you wiped everything flashed the zips and rebooted you have to start from the beginning and setup your device.

The only time it will just boot into the os its self is when you just do an update and not wipe user data.

Damn I didn't think about the sign in part.

This is where you will end up any time you flash a new AOSP ROM and you wipe everything prior to flashing. This is the initial setup screen for the Android OS. You tap on the green android and move through the initial setup (adding your Google account and set up your services, etc...). Once you complete this initial setup you should end up at the stock Android home screen.

So, in short, you were where you wanted/needed to be and now need to get back to this same point again.
