Hi all,
I'm new to Google but not Android. I just switched to Verizon and got a Note 7. Lo and behold I can't keep this awesome device

So, the only phone that comes close is the Pixel XL. I had no idea how long the wait is ordering from Google was going to be so I got on the wait list.

After reading several posts in this forum, I felt pretty confident I made a good choice and ordered my PXL through Verizon so I could feel safer with a new device, but now I'm reading I should have bought through Google.

Regarding the device and functionality are there detrimental consequences buying from Verizon? Thanx

Hi! Congratulations on your ordering, especially since it's a Pixel device!

I am from Canada and so I am not well versed in American carriers, but the only downside I can really think of with regards to Verizon would be any kind of carrier bloatware they'd have preinstalled on the phone when you take it out of the box (ie, Verizon-specific apps). But that isn't a detrimental issue - I wouldn't worry about it! :)

If you might want to root then go google, otherwise Verizon is the same device.

You are fine with Verizon. Unless you want to root which I doubt you do since you are new to Android. You are fine.

Thanx everyone. According to Verizon CS, their apps are not preloaded but have to be downloaded from the Play Store...If no one has verified before receive mine, I will update. I'm very excited to get my first Google phone😊😉

Awesome, congratulations for getting the Pixel, you make the right choice.

Well, you doesn't need to worry for the software update, it had stated by Verizon that the OS update will be handle by Google, which mean your update schedule will be same as Pixel phone that bought from Google store. The only downside is the locked bootloader, mean you can't root the phone and install custom firmware, otherwise you are in good hand ;)

There were no preloaded Verizon apps☺️. I had to download from the play Store

I've always bought my phone directly from Verizon. I don't know about others, but I always get excellent service. I also like the Peace of Mind knowing that if there's a hardware or software problem I can just go into a Verizon store rather than the manufacturer or Google

Ditto. I like knowing I can go a physical store to work out whatever problem I'm having with an electronic device should something ever go wrong.

As far as Verizon's Pixel goes, you haven't gimped yourself in any way, OP. You should be good. As a former Note 7 owner, I think the Pixel XL is up to par with the Note 7, but that's subjective. And because the bloatware can be uninstalled and forgotten, I think that gives the edge to the Pixel XL, IMO.

Like they all said 👍

You should be fine. Oddly enough, I bought my Pixel XL direct from Google, but when I go to Apps and select the option to show system apps, I have several Verizon app stubs in the list. None of them are downloaded and all show disabled but they do show up. Of course I'm assuming they are Verizon since they all have names starting with VZW.

Congratulations on your Pixel mate. That's a really good device. About the Verizon thing, Verizon controls your Updates to your device but it has said that they will update it at the same time as Google and Monthly Security Updates are still in control of Google and all the bloat can be uninstalled as they are from the PlayStore so It's not really much of a problem.

The 3 Verizon apps will automatically download once you put in as Verizon soon as you put in a Verizon sim card. This is true whether you buy from Verizon or Google. You can uninstall if desired .
