Did VZW have a data or cellular signal outage overnight?

I looked at the std battery screen and "Phone Idle" was highest listed.
Should have looked more closely. How do I determine amount of time
on/off 3G/4G/no signal?

Tap the Cell Standby item in the battery usage screens and you should see an entry for the time without signal as a percentage of the total on time. See my screen shots on first page of thread.

I am assuming that your post was directed at me. What did you see in the graphs that indicated the phone was heating up? I am not seeing that anywhere?

Not sure if you are looking at the red colors in the battery level graph or maybe the red color in the Mobile Network Signal bar. The green/yellow/red in the graph for battery level is just an indicator of the charge level - green=high, yellow=medium, red=low.
My understanding is that reflects the temp of the battery, green is good, red is running hot. Doesn't make sense that it shows the charge, if you look at your graphs it goes from green to yellow and then to red, all while still on battery so that would not reflect the charge indicator.

Maybe I misspoke... I should have said "state of charge" indicator. I don't know the exact numbers, but I think it is red below 15%, yellow from 15% to 50%, and green above this. (These are guesses, though. I haven't actually checked to see where the changeovers are.)

You will notice that the charge level after I switched to battery was progressing back up from red to yellow to green. I am about 99% sure that the color isn't an indicator of temperature. I think the only way to see the temperature is via 3rd party apps like "temperature monitor", and I don't think it can see anything other than the battery temp. It says that CPU temperature requires kernel support for this.

In my area (Manchester, NH) the data connectivity usually becomes very sluggish at night (It could be my building too) and on nights like those data speeds go up after around 2 or 3 am .. And I only get 3G in the building (I know that is a problem with the building/location)

LTE got turned on in my area on Dec 15. On the first night (actually on the night of Dec 14), I got excellent 4G LTE data even indoors. I was getting up to 10 to 12 mbps down. I haven't had 4G LTE indoors in this building ever since then.

I have had Nexus for a few days but despite data connectivity issues, I haven't experienced any call signal problems at all.
