if i turn them both off will my email update every hour like i have it set? Or do i have to turn on one of them? I also noticed that in order to go to the market place i have to have background data on, why is this even though i can go onto the internet with both of the settings off? what setting do i have to enable to have facebook sync every hour or the weather? If you can't tell i'm new to android and would appreciate some help. thank you

I was just going to post the exact same question. With auto sync on my phone reboots every hour. But what is the difference and pros and cons with each?

I am not a pro by any stretch, but it seems to me that background data is needed for the marketplace because when you select an application for download, it is downloaded immediately in the background process. Killing background data would prevent the download from happening.

Killing auto sync means your applications are prevented from syncing whenever they want to. This is often mentioned as a way to improve battery life.

Thanks, sucks because auto sync makes the phone reboot every hour. dont know if this is normal. I have taken out almost all downloaded programs. Battery life is much better. almost double.

Definitely not normal. In a week and a half I have only experience one uncommanded reboot, and I leave Auto-Sync on all the time.
