Different ringer and notification volumes?

Is there a way to have different volumes for the ringer and for notifications? When I slide the ringer up but want to leave notifications lower if can't. They change together

Look more carefully in the Settings. There is a place where you can set these volumes separately from each other.

Also, there's a free app widget called Audio Manager (or Audio Manager Pro for a fee) where you can adjust all these settings on your home screen(-s). Multiple skins are available in the settings.

If you go to sound in the settings, Menu button > sound > volume, there you will see a box to unchecked so you can adjust your ring tones and notification sounds indv.
