Different sim cards with bionic

Has anyone tried to put in a different carriers sim card in there bionic? I have read threads from other sites and a lot of them have gotten prepaid carriers sim card and then DL radiocomm made some changes and there phone works on there network. Just wondered if anyone has tried it or if they no someone who has. Oh and also those threads started never mentioned if the phone was rooted or not, I got the impression that they did not root there phones
