Difficulty connecting to certain wifi networks

Have a new LG G6 running Android 7.0. Service provider is AT&T. Unable to connect to some wifi networks such as a AT T hot spot, McDonald's. Also running Windscribe VPN. Tried everything but nothing works. Any suggestions?

For McDonald's, did you do this:

1. Connect to the "Wayport_Access" wireless network (actual network name may vary based on location).
2. Browse to any web page. ...
3. Click "Free Connection." ...
4. Accept the terms of service on the next page by checking the box and clicking the "Continue" button.
5. Finally, McDonald's Wi-Fi greets you and welcomes you to the Internet on the next page.

ATT Hotspot may work similarly.
