Dimensions: Optimus V vs. Optimus S

TVs come with clear film stickies?!? I think I was short-changed on mine!

j/k. Ha, no I don't leave them on everything. I just don't see the point of peeling off a perfectly good screen protector just to have to go hunt for a replacement that's never going to be applied as perfectly as the original film.

i have a bunch of sony bravias and they came with stickers on the bezel that advertise all the features of the TV. nothing covering the screen.

my optimus, however, came with something over the screen, it had a fake android desktop printed on it, so you could see it through the package.

when i opened my box for the first time and pulled out the phone, this cover had bubbles underneat it and clearly was not applied correctly. it was obviously meant to show the android desktop with the phone off in the package.

i cant believe anyone would use this as their screen protector. it has a tab to pull it off. it was designed to not be there.

it had a crease halfway in it and many bubbles. its clear this was NOT designed to be used with the phone in any way. just packaging fluff

^^

There are actually two layers on the screen when you take it fresh out of the box:
1) Fake Android Desktop w/ Color Printing
2) Clear film w/ tab

#1 is on top of #2, which is then on top of the screen.

People have been taking off #1 and leaving #2. It is VERY easy to take off both by accident. I didn't know about it and ended up taking off both. Luckily I was able to apply the OtterBox protector perfectly later on.

why would the clear film have a tab as well? thats clearly a manufacturing part to protect it from handling mishaps in the factories before its boxed and shipped. just like the clear film on the back and on the battery.

Clear film is clear film. Who cares what it was made for? It's not like screen protectors are made from magical plastic. If it works, then use it. You sound like the Iphone fanboys that can only use Apple approved accessories.

The demo android desktop display peels off the clear film underneath it. Once you get one of the edges up, it peels off easily.

Most of the clear films are perfectly applied (i.e. check it b4 purchase) - any imperfections are generally in the area where the tab is. You got unlucky on yours, but from your follow-up post, it doesn't sound like it would've mattered - if you see a tab, you can't help but feel the need to peel it off. :D I have friends just like you.

The truly anal should prefer the factory film, as there's no way an aftermarket screen protector can be applied as perfectly and without any contaminants trapped between the film and the screen. If you cut the tab off right, you can't even tell there's a film over the screen - and that's what you want in a screen protector...invisible protection.

Has anyone tried the 3 layer screen protectors? I have one on my phone and it's 99.99% perfect (a bubble so small you can barely see it near the front facing speaker) It's tough and hasn't gotten one scratch. As for the sizes ill bring a caliper to work with me and compare my work's Optimus S to my Optimus V with accurate measurements.

when i applied my screen protector, i cleaned the screen with alcohol and got it perfectly clean, no dust. the particular protector i got was like a static cling film, i aligned the top and it sucked itself to the display with no bubbles. not even a single dust spec that i can see in any light. also it was dead easy to apply.

I don't doubt people can apply screen protectors to a standard they're happy with, but it's still not going to top an unmarred factory film when it comes to fit and a contaminant-free seal (which is why I said for the"truly anal").

Anyways, point is, unless the factory film got messed up during the packaging process, why peel it off just because it has a tab and isn't being marketed as a screen protector...just to go out and buy an overpriced piece of clear film being sold as a screen protector?

I don't use a screen protector or a case. The screens are made from a scratch resistant ceramic that is much harder than glass. I have yet to get any scratches on the screen, and I am not gentle with the phone at all. I've also dropped the phone countless times. Every time I drop it, the battery goes flying out, but you know what? It is designed to do that. It lessons the shock to the entire phone. When you add a case and force the battery to stay in place for a fall, it can actually do more harm than good to the internal stresses. When the plastic case for the phone finally gives out, then I'll buy an external case or by then maybe they'll have replacement cases from China by then. Makes no sense to me to keep a pristine phone that you never get to see.

I just bought another LG Optimus V on the Radio Shack sale and the factory screen protector has a fake home screen printed on it so thats why I peeled this one off. But I kept my first LG Optimus V with the original till it was peeling all the way around before buying he 5 pack of screen protector from ebay for $1.50/w free shipping..

same here. I havent gotten a single mark on it and its flown out of my pocket on a bicycle and motorcycle already.

I only have a screen protector as insurance against that horrible awful moment when the phone flings against something that CAN damage it, at least ill have one more layer of protection. same reason i have a case on my phone. whatever damage happens to the screen protector and case will be easier on my wallet than a new phone.

but then again im OCD about things like this. I ride motorcycles afterall, gotta be a little safety crazy, never know what can go wrong

^^

It could be the manufacturing tolerances in your second example for the screen protectors. I am using the OtterBox origianlly speced for the Optimus S/U. They later implied that the V would fit when it came out. The screen protector that came with the OtterBox and the case itself fit 100% like a glove. The tolerances were spot on.

I'm using the OtterBox case and it's screen protector and I am pleased with the fit and finish also.

Ok it finally happened..

i put the phone in my shirt pocket this morning. had to run to avoid a car turning while crossing the street. phone goes flying out and skids face first on the pavement.

the phone was not wearing the rubber case, so there are horrible deep gouges in the top and bottom of the phones plastic.

the screen protector took all the face damage, i feared the worst! it was all hazy and foggy and i couldnt make it out if it was cracked.

i peeled a corner of the protector and then the whole thing off to reveal a perfect screen underneath. ill see if i can get pictures.

that was a 1.40 well spent. im buying a pack of 5 ASAP.

clearly, insurance against the inevitable, pays off eventually.
