Disappointing

Really had high hopes for this one. Even the iphone we all laugh at as boring suddenly start making a whole lorta sense now.

I mean, the iphone 7 has dual speakers, water resistance, 3d touch, a dedicated taptic engine, the fastest FPS, a killer design, a performance beast, dual cameras, imessage, continuity, the absolute best processors on the planet, killer battery life (plus model), regular updates (4 years), has all the absolute best games in the world, polished UX, and to spoil everything the iphone even gets all the google apps on the OS (while they never release any of theirs). Infact, when you factor in jail breaking, then the iphone all but choke slams the pixel without breaking a sweat. So shameful. Even when google had numerous examples/phones/features to just pick from other manufacturers.

What does google bring in return, a school mate for siri, a fantastic camera (let's just hope so), a wall paper picker (seriously?)
, an even uglier launcher. *uuurrggghhhh*

So ******* frustrated. Google *smh*

Until you remember the Galaxy s7 edge also has a big battery and is thin with small chin and forehead (even with the fact that they have a home button)
What Samsung can do with the S7 Edge is irrelevant to what Google can do with the Pixel. Besides, having small bezels/chin isn't automatically better than having less bezel/chin. There are numerous possible reasons for why it is the way it is.

I didn't say one was better I'm just saying I doubt it's because of the larger battery. Though I do prefer less bezel.

The S7 isn't cheaply made. The Pixel XL is higher priced than the Note 7 and we all know that the Note 7 adds more value adds... There is no point of buying these phones when their competitors in the same price range adds more features and some have more features for less. These phones are clearly overpriced... Deal with it.
There is absolutely nothing the Note has that the Pixel doesn't have that is of any use to me. However the Pixel will have Google assistant which I am tremendously excited about.
So to me the Pixel definitely has a lot more value than the Note. More "features " means zilch if they're not features I'll use

I don't know what country you're in, but the S7 is about $50 more expensive than the Pixel and the Note 7 is about $100 more expensive than the Pixel XL.

You can pick up a brand new, 32GB Galaxy S7 unlocked from a major retailer (B&H Photo) with free shipping for $560, right now, today. A base Note 7 will run you $100 more than a base Pixel XL, but you're also getting double the memory.

Sale or discounted prices of 7 month old phones isn't a fair comparison. The fact of the matter is that the Pixel phones are priced in line with the competition.

If Samsung can do it anybody can do it, they all have the same parts inside.

Small bezels are more aesthetically pleasing, and so better.

The only reason is, HTC uses inept/lazy designers.

To me if something doesn't need to be there it's a design flaw.

...my 6P records live events/music like NO phone I've ever owned...Nex never had that 'classic' muffled/overloaded mic sound...engineers at Huawei did their homework ! Like many shows I've used the 6P at, it takes close-up sound pressure w/no questions asked ! W/those front facing speakers, I'm a happy camper !
Example from last Aug...I'm rite on his Fender Champ !

The new Pixel, ahem, remains to be seen...

Considering it could definitely have benefited from water resistance, stereo front facing speakers, micro SD card slot, wireless charging (maybe on the glass back) they kind of missed some good opportunities to make this phone really shine. And it really needs it considering its retailing for $650+ with phones that have more value for the same price. If they do have the best camera on a phone that'll be a standout feature but seems to me they didn't provide the best phone of the year.

I totally agree. For that price the HTC 10 seems much better

Not only does nothing exist that has everything, any phone that did have all of those things would be 1) terrible and 2) ridiculously overpriced.

Here's the three major flagships of Q3/Q4 2016:

2016-10-06.png

Ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd on all of these variables. Other variables could be added as well, I just went with the most common complaints. Here's a summary for those not into analytics:

The iPhone 7+ has 4 features it leads on, 3 it's in second on and 6 that it's in last + 5 features listed that it does not have.
The Note 7 has 7 features it leads on, 6 it is in second on and 3 that it's in last with 2 features listed that it does not have.
The Pixel XL has 8 features it leads on, 4 it's in second on, 2 that it's in last with and 4 features listed that it does not have.

None have front facing stereo speakers.

Price is one of those features, but since all three phones are within $5 of each other, a margin of half a percent... we could have called those all even. Based on those rankings, the Pixel is the one with the best or most features, followed by the Note 7 and then the iPhone 7+.

But this is not how we choose phones. We choose which ones have the best set of features that match what we prioritize.

For example, my list would count microSD as a negative, not care about wireless charging or the s-pen, and so it'd move the Pixel XL from having 14% more of the 1st place wins as the Note 7 to having 125% more. So to me, the Pixel XL, based on what I want, is worth more than 200% of the value of the Note to me, by these standards, and so paying the same amount or more than the Note doesn't seem unreasonable - if one were to assume the Note 7's price was fair.

It's not true that just because Samsung can do something, that others can.

Small bezels are more aesthetically pleasing, but aren't necessarily more practical.

You're ASSUMING something doesn't need to be there. I guarantee you the phone is designed the way it is for a reason.

Yes, two reasons actually. One, the bezels are symmetrical which is going to have obvious implications when placed inside the VR headset, is more pleasing to people who aren't freaking their minds out over bezels (so not us nerds); and two, Google, Apple and others seem to believe that we will use these phones to view content in landscape and/or to shoot video and that during those times we may want a place to put our thumbs that isn't interrupting the experience.

Verizon controlling the non-security updates killed it for me. Guess I'll be sticking with my 5x for another year

Google sells it direct for the same prices with the same payment options and those devices have nothing to do with Verizon.

*DING DING DING DING!!!!!!!* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND WE HAVE A WIIIIIIIIINARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

With tiny bezels, how do you hold the damn thing in landscape mode?

When I first got my Note 5, I was constantly hitting the screen on accident when trying to watch videos. It was really annoying. Also, now that it is in a UAG case, the case covers up most of the bezel so it is difficult to hit the screen near to the lip of the case. It's really annoying. That's why I don't mind the bezel - to me it is practical to have it if you're going to have a more serious case on it.

One: Large bezels predate VR headsets. So I don't buy that argument.

Two: Never had a problem holding a phone in landscape.

I think that's the point, they are poking fun at apple. They got rid of the button apple is trying to get rid of, it's got glass in a "stylish" new way, was designed in house, they one up'ed every specification of the iPhone besides the second rear camera and waterproofing, and it comes with exactly the same price scheme. It even has a Siri like assistant.

I wouldn't be suprised if Google actually were having fun with Apple. It's almost like they are saying mobile design is dead bring on the AI wars.
