Disappointing

Generally when comparing prices we like to compare MSRP to MSRP or sale price to sale price, otherwise it can get fairly confusing talking about a firesale on one phone vs full price on another. Can you link to the S7 Edge for $500 unlocked? That's a hell of a deal, since it's $780 new in box MSRP.

https://swappa.com/buy/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-verizon?ref=mobilenations&data1=UUacUvbUpU5472670

This is only 1 deal I saw. I swear I saw a deal like this at somewhere else like newegg or best buy.

Dude... The phone is overpriced... Everyone agrees... It adds little value over the Nexus 6P with almost twice the cost for its most expensive version and a $150 extra for its lowest tier version. Its overpriced and is disappointing.

I don't agree...

Ok, provide your evidence rather than just telling me I'm wrong and then stating factually incorrect statements, such as "it adds little value over the Nexus 6P with almost twice the cost". Because I can demonstrate that's incorrect as well, just as I demonstrated that it is the most fully featured device of the three main flagships out of the 18 features listed.

Well considering the Nexus 6P is already blazing fast, has a great camera, provides more storage space for less, has a solid battery life, dual front facing speakers for as low as $400 I don't see why you would spend an extra $250 for a XL. And as far as I can tell around 80% of the Youtube and this sites viewerbase believes this phone is overpriced. It doesn't have any of the added value benefits that the other devices in the same price tier has and provides little over its previous counterpart let alone just buying a OP3 and being done with it. Its an overpriced Nexus phone and if you can't see that they rebranded it to sell it at a higher price point with just minor generation improvements then I feel sorry for you. Open your eyes man...

Really? Swappa is your source? You don't get the same buyer protection when buying from Swappa/eBay (i.e return period)... C'mon man!

Sorry bro that's 1 of the first things I clicked on so I went with it. Lol.

The Nexus 6P vs the Pixel XL

2016-10-07.png

6P has one thing that the Pixel XL lacks, Pixel XL has two things the 6P doesn't.

6P wins on price, it's $220 cheaper which means that the XL is 34% more expensive. I'm giving the 6P the benefit of the doubt on screen because we know that it's pretty decent in sRGB mode and don't know for sure that the XL has an sRGB. Aside from that, it wins in 1 additional category, front facing stereo speakers. They also tied on storage since both are 128 GB. Overall 4 1st place finishes and 9 second place finishes for the 6P.

XL wins on Assistant, Audio (due to Aqstic codec in the SD 821), battery life (though this is an assumption based on updated more efficient SoC, smaller display, same size battery), Camera, Charging tech, Processor, Software, Security, the IP rating of IP53, Software updates and being DayDream ready. It has 12 1st place finishes and 2 second place finishes.

So if getting the following isn't worth $220 to you, then don't buy it. But you can't say there is "no value add" over the 6P, since the 6P just got trounced.

Assistant
Battery life
SoC
RAM
IP Rating
Camera
Software
Security
Software Updates

So we went from everyone to now 80%?? You realize on the internet that people complaining about something will always outpace people praising something right?

Lucky you have a choice, your opinion is that it is too expensive others feel it is inline with current "premium" devices.

6P being already good doesn't mean the XL isn't better. It is. See above post. Also, the MSRP of the 6P at 128 GB is $649, not $400. The 32 GB version is $499.

And as far as I can tell around 80% of the Youtube and this sites viewerbase believes this phone is overpriced.

Ok. Popular opinion and factual information are almost never correlated. See above post for direct comparisons.

I've proven both of these points wrong in this very thread. You restating misinformation over and over doesn't make it more correct.

Keep your pity. lol - there's so much going on that makes it a clean break from a Nexus that I'm actually a little surprised that the internet keeps trying to compare them despite Google's clear statement that Nexus is dead and this is something new. Compare it with the Pixel C in mind and it'll help eliminate all the false talking point assumptions that keep getting regurgitated here rather than a clear point by point comparison of the devices to its peers. Almost none of these improvements are minor and it's incredibly rare to see a year over year improvement of this scale.

My eyes are open and this is what I see...

Google made a change in business direction and the Pixel is the figurehead of that change. The uproar may not have been as bad had the Pixel had "vastly" better specs than the 5X/6P, but there is no denying that overall its a better phone than both. Also, keep in mind that part of the change in direction was that they wanted the same specs for both sizes, unlike the 5x & 6P.

I really think there are two overall complaints... Google's change in business strategy and to a much lesser extent, people are not happy with the technical decisions on parts of the Pixel.

The business part is not changing any time soon... The Pixel will probably change next year.

Bottom line... If you don't like the business decision, sorry... you have other options. If you don't like the phone, sorry... you have other options or wait until next year.

Sorry, I meant please provide a link to a new in box from a respected retailer with full warranty and all the perks associated with new in box purchase for $280 off.

You sir have nerves of steel and patience for days.. I would have lost it long ago, went all mid-evil and received an AC warning... LOL

Okay, I'm probably going to have to echo what some of the other green badges have said.

First let me phrase this. I am not a big fan of the Pixel phones in general because I feel that Google may have priced them a wee-bit too high.

However, that does not make it a bad phone. Far from it. The Pixel has its own set of features and stuff that might make it more enticing to some people.

In short, it's expensive but as a package, it's better overall compared to the 6P although you do lose the front speakers. Whether that's worth the premium is of course, up to you.

Bro I guess we'll agree to disagree because the Pixel is obviously overpriced. Pretty much everyone is saying it besides you. You are alone with this argument...

He's not alone.

Yes, he's probably in the minority, but there are some people out there who think otherwise.

See I agree that its overpriced and that it isn't a bad phone. What I'm saying is it doesn't have any value adds that would entice you to buy it over a S7, V20, HTC 10 etc.,. Its not a "BAD" phone just disappointing and overpriced... Simple...

Yup I can see the change in business direction. They want to compete with Apple which is clear. But not adding what other Android phones have like IP68 water resistance makes it less enticing to buy over a S7 especially for the casual audience. Particularly at the price point its at.

I was responding to your claim that the S7 is $50 more than the Pixel. Right now, you can buy it for $560, which is $90 less than the Pixel. If you want a phone right now, you're looking at the current price, not the MSRP price, so the comparison is very valid. Right now, Samsung Galaxy S7 = $560, and Pixel = $650.

The current price of a Galaxy S7 on Verizon Wireless is $672. Maybe you can find it somewhere online for cheaper, but if you get your phones through the carriers like most people do, the Pixel is cheaper. Verizon has the S7 at $672, T-Mobile has for $640, Sprint has it at $650, and AT&T has it for $695. And like I said before, the S7 has been out since March

It's pure Android and it works with Project Fi. Those are two value adds.

He's not alone.

I do think it is overpriced, from the sense that I've never seen a phone that I think ought to be priced that high. But compared to its peers, the iPhone 7+, Note 7, etc, it's priced directly in line with them and matches them in terms of overall package from a feature list - though all three have features that the others don't, so that's where subjective priorities come in. So relative to the competition, it's priced exactly right. Relative to the opinions of consumers, all phones are way overpriced - but the OEM's seem to strongly disagree.
