I have been enjoying my LS670 over WiFi and have not bothered to activate it with Sprint. I'd like to use Google Voice over WiFi to make phone calls without activating with Sprint. Is there any way to do this? Is there a ROM already set up to to this? I have CM7.2 installed now.

I can set up Google Voice, but when I try to make a phone call, the phone routes to Sprint/iWireless for activation.

Because your using GOOGLE services most require service try app
Text plus+calls works for my little brother

Thanks for the suggestion, tried Text plus+calls, phone still sends call to iwireless. I thought that by rooting the phone I would take control of it, but I guess even rooted, Sprint controls the phone?

Try Groove IP. It's a paid app but it works really well. It integrates with the standard dialer so you can choose to call over WiFi.

I use it on my Nexus S, and it's definitely worth the few bucks.

Thanks for the recommendation, Drew, I tried Groove IP. So far I can only get outgoing audio. (Others can here me, I can't here them.) It's pretty frustrating to pay a premium app price of $4.99 and the app not work. I've tried tweaking it, still haven't got it to work. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them.

I had that same problem on my old Samsung Moment after I lost service with it. I can't even remember which apps I used, but they all seemed to have that problem.

I am a noob here, but I'm guessing changing the frequency your router uses to broadcast a signal might fix it. I could be totally wrong, though. I'm sure google could tell you more if no one else answers your question first.

That's weak sauce. Maybe it doesn't like CM7. AFAIK there is a way to enable Google Voice calling through the call settings. I saw a how-to somewhere, I'm gonna try to dig it up for you.

I have a somewhat related question. How can I reassociate my phone with sprints 3G service. Here's what I've done. I bought a optimus s without knowing it has a bad esn. Flashed it to an exact optimus s with a clean esn and when I do a factory reset and it attempts to set up network the 3G shows up. But when I activate phone the 3G never shows up and the phone can't set up the network. Please help it's my first droid. And I believe I've fallen in love.

What you are describing is called ESN cloning, and is not something we discuss here. It is illegal and could get you booted from Sprint.

Violations of one or more of the following rules will result in an immediate ban of your account:

  • Illegal Activities - Do not post, link, discuss, or request warez, serials, ROM's, or illegal copies of intellectual property of others. Discussions regarding hardware or software modifications designed to steal service, such as ESN cloning & phone programming modifications are also forbidden in the forums. AC has a zero tolerance policy on such posts.
I think should clear up any further discussion on this topic.

I'm done messing with it. At least I can cut my loss and give it to my kids for the wifi and games. Back online to find another one that's clean:). Maybe the next one won't be purple.

Clears it up perfectly. I'm very sorry I wasnt aware completely of the severity of doing that. For what it's worth I didn't actualy do that my self. I wouldn't know how to begin. I took it to an independent wireless dealer and they suggested it and did it.

Wow. Seriously? That's unbelievable that a company would even suggest that.

Lesson learned: always check the ESN with the seller before purchasing.

Before you hand over the cash call sprint and tell then you need to get an esn check, tell then the numbers and they will tell u if it is clean or not!!

That's a great idea thanks. It's not all a loss my kids will love playing with it. I will find another one.

I've been using Groove IP on 3 different Optimus phones and a Transformer tablet over wifi without any issues.
