Discount for Note 7 owners

Can't blame u for that. I certainly wouldn't trade even my N4 for $25.

In a few months when prices drop, do those prices apply to upgrades or only when you buy outright?

It all depends on the carrier and retailers.

tmobile isn't sold at Best Buy, but Samsung.com puts them on sale so I can buy it that way.

Also you have the unlocked version too. Best Buy, Amazon, and Samsung.com were running sales on those too. Since I know Wifi will work on it since it always does with Tmobile I can go that route too.

Best Buy last week had the unlocked s8 and s8 plus on sale. Not sure if it is this week still or not.

I would NOT pay full price for the s8 right now because every other week there seems to be a new sale on it. Hopefully in Oct the unlocked version will be out and then in early Nov it will start going on sale.

If it is at least a grand though even the sale prices would make this hard to swallow for me. I might pick up the Tab s3 then or if I do buy the Note 8 then no S9 for me then.

Yes WiFi calling should work, it does on my Unlocked S8. :)

Tmobile Wifi calling always works on Samsung unlocked versions. It doesn't on LG though. Also I don't think with Verizon wifi calling will work on the unlocked one.

It amazes me how some Note 7 owners keep expecting things from Samsung.

I don't "expect" anything from them, but to be honest, the refund that took literally 3 months for me to get (after being promised 10 days, then 14 days, then 14 "business" days).......only arrived after I spent 14 hours on it (phone calls and more phone calls, running around to store after store to try to get the refund before giving up and dealing directly with Samsung.....packaging it up and sending it), so since I make $25 an hour, I'm still out several hundred dollars on the whole debacle.

Sounds like my problem. Who was your carrier?

Isn't it HD calling that may not be supported on unlocked phones, not Wi-Fi calling?

I don't expect anything either, but it would sure be awesome if they threw us a bone! I mean, they sold us a fire hazard and then took it back, pretended to fix it, and gave it to us again. That's the part that irked me the most. You take the devices back to fix them, you better actually find the problem and fix them! It would be awesome if they said they'd give Note 7 owners 30% off or something. Like I said, I don't expect it, especially in today's climate and lack of customer service. But it would be a much appreciated olive branch for their fans who got "burned". And yes, that's how I see it. It was a pain in the a** to deal with.

I don't think Samsung owes us anything. I went through both cycles (and returned both-got my money back).

In my mind you either kept the note 7 as is, or you returned and got your money back. Either scenario, Samsung shouldn't owe anyone anything...

One thing to always keep in mind is that while for everyone here it was a personal disaster... calls to sales reps, trips to stores, etc... for some, it was easy, for others, it was a royal pain in the butt. So there is a tendency there to take it personally. But for Samsung, it was a episode that cost them billions of dollars, millions of angry customers, being hammered by the press, being the punchline of many a late-night talk show joke..

As a whole, I think Samsung handled this as well as anyone could have expected. It was a completely unprecedented turn of events and I think they ended up executing it pretty good. Now, that doesn't mean that some people fell through some cracks. There were a million moving parts to this, and it's impossible to get all those parts to work in harmony. With that in mind, I don't think it is reasonable for us to expect Samsung to give us more.

Now, do I THINK that they'll add a little bit of sugar to the mix here? Of course, but that's not anything they haven't already done. Free VR headsets, memory cards, wireless chargers, BOGO deals... Samsung has been promo'ing their phone launches for a while now, and I certainly think that with all the attention around this phone's launch, they'll throw in a little sumtin' sumtin' when it drops.

I don't think it's so much a matter of whether or not they "owe" anyone anything. I think it's more that they would want to really sweeten the deal for even better PR. As has been mentioned, they went through heck with that whole scenario, and I'd imagine any additional good PR would be worth it's weight in gold at this point. I also was overall relatively happy with the way they handled it, my criticism mostly stems from the fact that they didn't fix the phone the first time, yet pushed them out again and put everyone at risk a second time. Twice they put money ahead of safety. I understand they are chasing the dollar, but you can't put your customers at risk.

I'd say from S8 sales most are pretty good with Samsung still. Hell even a good amount of faithful Note owners are here and saying they're getting the 8.

Yep. I'm included in that category. People are still fans of the product even with the fiasco. However, I also am certain that there's plenty of others who aren't coming back to Samsung. So while any special promo would be geared toward them, it would still benefit the rest of us and make it even better. I know they won't do that, and I don't think they are obligated by any means. But it would still be awesome.

I might consider getting a Note 8 for my wife. It's basically down to between the Pixel XL 2 and the Note 8... and I'm leaning to the XL2. The Note 7 debacle created a major pain in my backside that I am still dealing with, so I am a bit bitter towards Samsung for that... but I have full confidence that the N8 will be a damn good phone.

I'd be pretty disappointed to see that happen. If they want to do a discount that goes wide to all customers, do it. If they want to single out former Note 7 owners, that's a bad practice. The S8's success ends the shadow of the Note 7.

I completely disagree. If someone didn't have the Note 7, they have no skin in the game. The S8 didn't end the shadow, because the Note line is a different product. It's not bad practice in the slightest to throw a bone to a segment of your consumers who dealt with an unfortunate circumstance.

Right, but they did that. With people keeping multiple free gifts, several carriers offering bill credits for the hassle, giving full refunds even on damaged products, etc. Throwing another bone is increasing their liability on what's already over a $20 billion write down. It would also call more attention to the "fiasco", when it's probably in their best interests to keep that whole things out of the news as much as possible. I understand why the consumers would appreciate it; who doesn't want a discount? But is it a good practice to do that? I personally don't think so, but I can understand the other side as well.

Yeah, all your points are valid. I just don't see how it would hurt them to bring up the fiasco if it was to offer something cool. Mostly because I don't think anyone has forgotten about it anyway, and because people would just see that Samsung was serious about making it right. You're dead on that we got a lot of cool stuff already with the free promotional things, but as we have seen here on this board, there's clearly still some remaining frustration. Valid or not, they aren't going to do anything so it won't matter either way. But like you said, everyone loves a discount and that would be a pretty awesome way to get one.

People's memories are short. If you asked someone who doesn't visit phone boards, they'd probably think "Samsung" or even "Android". Because they loop them all together, rarely knowing the difference. Some call ALL Android phones a Droid and they're not.

Why worry? Samsung throws out a ton of promos with their big launches. There might be free VR headsets, SD cards, etc.... I am not expecting any special treatment because I had a Note 7 for all of 5 minutes before it was recalled.

Exactly, Gear VR with my S7, got an accessory bundle valued at $300 with my Note 5, $50 Google play credit and some free apps and services from the Galaxy app store with my Note 4. Samsung does a great job giving people extras when they are an early adopter. Than within a few months carriers and retail stores like Best Buy give huge discounts.
