Discount for Note 7 owners

Can't find the article, but is this the up to $425 for former Note owners for giving your old phone up? If so no way I'd touch this with a 15 ft pole after this recent fiasco with the S8 Promo and like new phones getting rejected. You're better off trading it in in person at your carrier, or going to Best Buy. I'd never trust sending in a working device and hoping for the best.

After my ordeal of getting my Note 7 refund from my carrier I'm NOT ready to have another dispute over a trade in with Samsung.com
Did you properly prepare your trade in phone before sending it in? I did the 2 for price of one S8 deal, exchanging a Note 5. Account credited the return of the Note 5 in about 3 days.

No I was just saying what happened to others. I might bite on this deal just because they will give me $425 for the S5 or S7 Edge. My dad has his old S5 but being an older phone that might be a roll of the dice and they might nit pick and find something bad. If I got $425 for the S5 I could then sell my S7 Edge also for at least a couple hundred. I'll decide over the next few days.

This would be a deal if:
1. It applied to ALL former N7 owners regardless of going through Samsung or your carrier.

2. If what you owed on your replacement device is forgiven and you start at $0.

3. You are able to upgrade to the N8 immediately.

IMO, anything less isn't a favor from Samsung. It's just good advertising until you get an accurate understanding of the fine print and loopholes they can use to shaft u in the end.
Agreed. It doesn't benefit me one bit. I went through everything with the Note7 as others who qualify and I get nothing for it.

Um, I don't know what you are talking about but everyone qualifies who bought a Note 7, regardless of where you got it. I bought mine from Tmobile and the Samsung site qualifies me with my email. As long as you had a Samsung account and logged into it on the note 7 It should of registered you as an owner. I already ordered mine and will be sending in a $60 iphone 5 I bought on ebay for the $425 credit.

I think what they're trying to say is that, while we may qualify, by forcing us to buy through them (Samsung) in order to get the discount, it isn't really that beneficial. In the bigger picture, buying the device from Samsung means that you are then locked into only dealing with them should the device break, needs a warranty swap, and so on. You also have to buy their insurance. It eliminates the ease of dealing with your carrier and, IMO, complicates things. We jumped through enough hoops during the recalls, we shouldn't have to do that anymore.

And the fact that some people went to a lease type option. Those people have to pay off half or all of the device before they can upgrade. If u owe more on the device than what u can sell it for, there's the issue of paying for that one AND the N8.

You continue to be lost. Roughly all of your posts so far in this thread either are inaccurate or so confusing that it just doesn't make any sense. You cant lease a device and also have to pay half before upgrading. All leases on tmobile are JOD which allows you to upgrade at any time , no matter what you owe because its a lease, not an installment plan. People who have to pay off 50% are not leasing the device. They purchased the device and paying in installments (EIP). They are the ones who must pay down 50% to be able to upgrade. And im sorry, but if you signed an EIP less than 6 months ago and now want a note 8, then you have to eat the cost. That's how life and depreciation works. You signed the EIP knowing very well that there would be many other phones coming out within the next few months and that your phone would not be worth near what you paid for it in 6 months. If you cant afford to pay off your phone balance and then put in extra cash for the note 8, then you shouldn't be looking at a $1000 phone.

For the folks who paid outright for a new phone after the Note 7 fiasco, good for you. However, there were quite a number of folks who most likely, traded in their perfectly functioning phones and upgraded to the Note 7. Then were forced to turn that phone back in and go into a payment plan for a phone they did not want because they traded in the previous phone that they had in the first place. So to me it seems Like Samsung still left those folks SOL because they have to pay off the replacement phone ( for some more than the $425 Sammy is offering) they never wanted but had to get.

From a monetary view, Samsung still left this group of folks out in the cold. The Carriers (Verizon, in my case) won't let you take advantage of their specific upgrade promos until your current device is paid in full (would be no need for installment plans if everyone could afford to pay upwards of $800 - $1,000 in cash).

My friend is in this predicament because he traded in his S5 at the time for the Note 7, and was forced to purchase S7 edge on a payment plan when the Note 7 went to Hell. He can't justify sending a phone to samsung for $425 off and still have to" finance the remainder due on the Note 8 over 24 month to benefit from this discount", While he will first have to payoff the installment thru Verizon for the S7 edge phone he would have to send to Samsung before hand.

For the poster who made a comment about folks buying phones and entering into EIP knowing something better is coming down the line, seems a bit unfair. In my friend's case, the S5 was his daily phone, so when the Note 7 had to be returned, he "had" to buy another phone. Granted he could have gone to a much cheaper phone than the S7 edge at the time, but why buy and get stuck with any old phone in the hopes Samsung will continue the Note line in the distant future. So many folks were under the impression Samsung and the Carriers were going to offer early upgrades to say the least for previous Note 7 owners, not be told unless they payoff the current phone in full, they're SOL.

I hate to sound as if I think Samsung isn't doing anything at all, but Between Samsung and the individual carriers, they should allow for early upgrade to Note 8. No one is looking to spend even more money for the phone they really want in the first place.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm ok with being lost for now. When the N8 drops, I'll be found. If YOU find my posts confusing or inaccurate, they don't apply to you. The person or people who it applies to do understand. I am with AT&T Next. We DO have to pay half before upgrading. Maybe "lease" is the wrong term. My bad. The rest of your post... Well, I just let it be. I don't come to the forums to argue or belittle.

All you have to do is tell whatever carrier you're with that you're going to go to another carrier unless they let you upgrade early because of last year's Note 7 Fiasco and tell them that you're a loyal customer and you don't want to jump ship soon as you tell them that they should waive whatever fees or left on that phone and let you preorder the note8 believe me it works

Just got a Samsung email saying my order is processing and one or more items is a pre-order

I just ordered my Note 8 via samsung. Will they send a shipping label and stuff with it to ship my S7 Edge back to them?

If it works like it did for the S8+ trade-in promo, they tell you to send it in with the same box as your new device. They also send an email with the shipping label attached.

YES, I believe you. My sister threatens UVerse every year when her promo expires. Lol! Once u ask for the retention department they put on someone who's willing to do whatever they can to keep you as a customer.

I think what was being explained got confused. I will see if I can explain it out to help :).

AT&T Next is an "Installment" plan. Basically this means you tell AT&T you agree to buy the phone and they agree to allow you to pay it in payments per month until you have it fully paid off. They also allow you to pay 50% then "upgrade" to another phone if you choose to do so. This is all part of that agreement of you buying the phone.

With the lease payments (such as "Jump ON DEMAND!" for T-Mobile) they're basically "borrowing" the phone. Just like you would lease a car for "X" months from a dealer. The difference is T-Mobile allows you to turn the phone in early before the lease is up. Basically they say "Pay (X) per month to borrow/lease the phone" but if you have had it for 30 days+ they allow you to say "Na, I don't want to lease anymore. Here take this and give me the new shiny (X) phone on lease!" and they say "Sure thing" -- done and done. No paying off 50% because you were just borrowing it to begin with versus entering an agreement to buy.

I hope that helps :).

I'm waiting when you start freaking out that other carriers have started shipping and samsung.com orders are not shipping yet ... You will swear that you will not order again from them etc ... Was that on Note 7 or S8?

I am in the situation with my S7E. However, i didn't know I wasn't going to be able to upgrade when the note 8 launched. My fault for not doing my research I guess but I just figured I would have to do the normal thing and pay 50% of it like I did in all the previous years. Oh well. I'll threaten Verizon to leave and maybe they will do something for me lol

Ditto for my wife, though what research could one do? When that all went down, there were no clear cut expectations laid out by Samsung or the carriers. It was all speculation, some of which included an end to the Note line all together. So now it seems a lot of people were forced into phones they didn't want, were given no idea what you expect, and now being blindsided with the "special" offer that requires them to pay off a large balance at once to claim it.
