Discussion: My Thoughts on the LG V30

How did you get it at Tmobile already? I went to three stores and can't even play with a demo unit LOL. I think all the store manages took the V30 home with them for a few days.

I'm coming from the 950, How did you find the transition to Android? Did you load the Microsoft launcher? How about MS office? Do you like the outlook email app? How does the calendar look in the office app?

It's been quite the transition. I will say that, hardware wise, the V30 completely blows the 950's away. But I miss my polycarbonate back. I feel that, if Microsoft had done something closer to the Lumia 830, I would've been much happier with my 950 XL. Even the Mozo cases aren't quite enough. The creaking is still there after a while. But as far as feature goes, you won't miss a beat. You still have double-tap-to-wake (and sleep), the Always On Display, the OLED display, wireless charging, microSD support... then you get the awesome dual cameras (they're comparable if not better than the 950's), the spectacular headphone sound, better TMobile support, and more support than Windows 10 Mobile ever got (sad face). If I had to chose any Android for the majority of Windows phone users to migrate to, the V30 would be my choice.
Now, Microsoft's apps are awesome on Android, especially Outlook. I only have one complaint about Outlook on Android... you can't customize the toast actions for notifications. I like mine to be "Mark as Read" and "Delete", but they're stuck at "Archive" and "Reply" on Android. That's the only thing I've noticed. Everything else is as good if not better. The only thing that's slightly annoying is you can't just sign in once and everything is good to go. It will definitely take a while to settle into Android. I'd say, if you get the V30, expect to spend at least three hours just setting everything up. It's a process, especially if you don't like LG's launcher (which I don't).
And I bought mine online.

Just did what they are still calling a pre order and less than 24 hrs later my T-MOBILE V30 is at my house! Going to a retail store this weekend to turn in my Note 8 to complete the JOD! Man this thing rocks, I will miss some things about the Note 8 but I do not regret trading it for the V30 so far.

Zachary,
Thanks for that reply. I should have the phone tomorrow and will mess around with it all weekend. I have watched a few videos on the MS launcher and it looks pretty good. I hope to get the basic android stuff down pretty fast.

I will head to the store tomorrow and hopefully pick up the phone.

Great review, switched to Android last year but once in a while I'll power up the Lumia 950 and still my first love in OS design. Well second because I'll never get webOS out if my mind.

So in technical terms, shutter speed is a mechanical function. During daylight exposures the shutter speed has to be sub-second (as I mentioned initially) so that your images aren't washed out by white light. This is true for any type of camera. During low light pictures, you want a slow shutter speed (in many cases in the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months) to gather as much light as you possibly can. A tripod or stable source (like the vacuum of space) is required for that though.

When you mention that shutter speeds are slow, it might be that your source is conflating the meaning of the word with what they think is slow.

No need to personal attack btw.

Most likely he is referring to lag from the time the shutter button is pressed until the actual photo is acquired.
BTW, there are no mechanical shutters on these phones. All are electronic.

I called today to make a jump from my note as well I played with the v30 in store for a little bit nothing like having as a day to day hope I won't regret it either but if so I'll just return and keep my note since as of now I'm happy I just want the wide angle camera

Covers; With spending this amount of money on a phone I can't see not buying a cover for it. I spent less than $10 for a decent rubber type cover that still keeps the phone light. My older IPhone I had dropped at least 3x in the last year by accident. The cover helped protect the phone. So what color the back of the phone is pointless.

Another advantage of the cover is when you trade in your phone in a couple of years you will get more trade in value for your next phone as it is in better condition
