Discussion on the appeal of iOS vs Android

Do you buy other things, based on how others will judge you when they see you with them? Clothes, cars, shoes, tools, etc?

It's more peer pressure. Sometimes your friends constantly urge you to be like them. But I feel like because of that, it made me want my non smart phone friend to have a smart phone. I got obsessed with him not having a smart phone.

Re: What would Android have to do to have the same hype as iphone?

I am the opposite on this. The Air 2 I got for my girlfriend is pretty beast mode. Everything runs smooth and we charge it maybe once every 2 weeks?

You'd probably notice it more if you used it lol.

I use it a lot to browse the forums. I also use it at times for hangout video calls. She uses it a lot for Facebook and games. No issues. I would suggest maybe resetting your device.

It gets used a lot for TV, sky etc. It lasts quite a while just browsing, Facebook etc.

its not worth to get the 1750. wait for the extended. should be about 2600. almost double the standard. as said above, its coming soon. also there is no other maker for them so dont be fooled by sites saying they have it. just FYI

Oh yeah you can hurt the battery by using tons of video. That I'm not denying.. Just saying ours doesn't do random freezes or anything of that nature. Our main uses are what I stated... But I have used it for a day of movie watching via my cell phones hot spot and it never froze.

My IPad Air 2 128gb.. is incredible.. Amazing screen and battery is awesome... I love it

iOS and Android target totally different user groups. While Google tries to be semi-open, everything on iOS is locked away and out of reach for a human being. While iOS products are usually a bit costly, Android is basically free and might also not add up that much for licensee fees to an existing product.

At the end iOS or Android might be a discussion such as Apple or Amiga two decades ago :)

Someday you'll grow up and make decisions based on what YOU want. If not you'll be a follower the rest of your life.

IOS and Android targeting different groups is BS. That's the statement from a follower and not a free thinker.

Apple is like communism, they lock it down, no customizing authorized, and Apple will tell you what you want. Android is like the US, free thinker, open to customize your UI, and incorporates what users want.

Maybe just get a flip phone and see if your friends follow you.

Apple products are aesthetically pleasing and are backed by truly brilliant marketing. I guess a lot of people are drawn to them because of their veneer of 'coolness' and prestige.

Just a matter of preference, I guess. Kinda like the whole Windows vs. Mac OS debate.

(I personally use and prefer Android.)

It's not about targeting different groups because how do you explain people like me who use both?

I still like iPhones and have both the 6+ and 6S+ because I know what I am getting and what they can do for me. I love the music app much better then the Google Music app even though I have my iTunes library in both Apple and Google. I just never liked the Google music app.

I like my Note 4 and Note Edge simply because I can swap batteries and not be tied to a cord. This last week though, I've been kind of lazy about swapping batteries in either phone and have just been plugging it in.

I also have two MacBook Pros for my computers along with a Surface Pro 3. That's right, I use Macs and a Windows computer.

Although I bought my Note 4 and Note Edge phones early in 2015, there have been no other Android phones that I've been interested in though I really didn't look into too many. I'm kind of bored with Android with the purchase of my iPhone 6S+ just about two weeks ago.

I think it boils down to two different concepts..

First, it's the "WHY DON'T YOU LIKE WHAT I LIKE!?" syndrome.... this is something that we all see even without Apple or iPhones in the mix. Someone likes device A, another one doesn't like device A and thinks its junk. So the first person takes it as a personal insult that anyone would dare to criticize a phone that the Almighty would be pleased with.... and an argument ensues. The larger the divergence between the two devices, the higher the chances of a drag-out row. So what is a mild disagreement between someone with a S6 and a Note 5 turns into a monkey-crap-fight if that Note 5 is replaced with a iPhone 6S.

The second part is more nuanced. And I place the blame for this one on Apple's shoulders. Early on, the iPhone was clearly ahead of any Android phone. The hardware, operating system and apps all heavily favored Apple's stuff. And in their ads, keynotes, etc... they (Apple) basically looked upon any Android device with disdain, almost insulted that anyone would even think about choosing such an inferior product over an iPhone. That dismissive disgust quickly filtered down to iPhone users, with the complete blessing of Apple, and it really got under the skin of the Android fans at the time.... kind of simmered and stewed a bit.

And all the while, Android improved. The OS made huge gains in usability, performance and reliability and the hardware it ran on advanced with leaps and bounds. Once the playing field leveled, all that frustration from earlier kind of boiled over and Android zealots, now-armed with the knowledge that the iPhone was no longer the superior device/ecosystem it once was, unloaded on the hard core Apple fans, most of which still held on to the outdated notion that their beloved platform is superior and to say otherwise is silly... a belief that Apple keeps feeding to this day even though the once peerless iPhone is now the one playing catch-up behind the likes of the Nexus 6P, Note 5, etc...

So that leaves us with the digital Hatfield/McCoy blood fued that we have today.

Re: You can never impress or please others with your phone?

There are some things that I wish my iPhone could do that my Note 4 could do just as there are things I wish my Android phones could do that my iPhone can. There will always be some things that the other platform can do that the other can't till they catch up or develop something similar.

Samsung is already rumored to be developing something similar to Apples 3D touch. I like that I can hold the phone icon on my 6S+ and dial any one of the top three phone numbers on my favorites list without ever having to open the phone app. That really helps when I'm at my job.

I also love that text messages come through on my MacBook Pro whenever I get one so I don't miss any. I can't do that with my Android phones.

There are also many current Android phones that have a lot less features than the current iPhones just as there are current Android phones that have more features than the current iPhones.

It's a cat and mouse game where each platform kind of copies each other.

I have 4 small widgets on my home screen, one for each of the most called numbers. I just hit the widget and it dials the number...fast as heck.

I'm an Android fan, but I respect Apple products as well.
I am opposite of you in that I want to go my own way, and I believe it is the best way. The millions of people that buy Apple and have no idea why make me kind of sick. I research and compare and KNOW what I'm buying.

Simple. If you don't know or care about the Technical side of smart phones, just buy an Apple. It's simpler and most people see it as a high status symbol. If you do care about Tech, Android is a better platform with tons of great options.

I had the HTC One when the iPhone 5 was out. Every iPhone user I encountered, I would show them my phone, the features, the style, and all were amazed that it wasn't an iPhone. I even used an iPhone 5 for a while and it was fine but lacked a lot of features that Android had.

Today, the race is closer, since Apple now offers bigger screens, but its still the same old song out of them, every iPhone looks the same, boring. With Android you could pick from tons of premium phones, Nexus 6p, Samsung S6, Droid Turbo 2, LG V10, and more. Each offers its own unique look, feel, and features.

Finally, price. Apple products are just too expensive to justify for me when they do not offer anything significant over the competition. Price matters.

Wow... People really give a **** about this stuff? Sad.

Why I chose an iPhone two years ago:
1. build quality
2. stable os
3. long lasting time

Number 3, longevity, is my main concern. My iphone 3 got heavy use for 5 years and still works great except the battery is shot. I'm hoping my Note 4 will last as long. I had the iphone 6 for a short time but the Note 4 does so much more without even mentioning the expandable storage, removable battery and the s pen. Number 1, you mention the build quality, I'm doubting that. I've wached YouTube videos doing comparison drop tests between the iphone 6 and the galaxy 6 and the galaxy holds up while the iphone gets destroyed.

The biggest thing with an iPhone is you can get a decent price for it. It isn't better in any way than a top android phone but it holds a decent price
