Displaying Honor 8X screen on a Smart(ish) TV

I'd like to connect up my Honor 8X to my TV. The TV isn't smart enough to use the wireless option. So I know I need to use the micro-usb connector on the phone.

My question is this: Do I only need a micro-usb to HDMI connector cable and connect this directly into the TV.
Or do I also have to have an MHL adadapter that sits between the phone's micro-usb connector cable and a standard HDMI to HDMI connection cable that goes into the TV?

Any advice much appreciated

The phone doesn't do MHL at all, so you'll need a Chromecast of Miracast type dongle for the TV.
