Do I need to update my Nook Color?

Okay, here are the facts:

*I got my Nook Color for my birthday, March 2011
*I rooted it almost immediately (a few days after, I had some technical issues)
*It has software version 1.1.0

Now here's my question. Do I need to update it? And...how? I know, that's such a silly question, but I don't feel "at home" with my nook's rooted system...any other device I can figure out in a flash but this thing feels like a foreign language. So can anyone help me?! I'm hoping there's an update out there that would fix my nook's inability to connect to my home internet, but maybe that's just a useless dream.

How did you root it? Just rooted 1.1 or installed CM7? If you just rooted 1.1 I believe you can manually update to 1.3 by following the directions on the B&N website, though you will have to re-route afterwards again. Does it connect to any other wifi sites? If so, try using WEP without encryption on your home router.

I used an auto-nooter. Does the device have to be connected to the internet in order to update, or can I do it through plugging into my computer? The only place it doesn't work is at home...I can go to my parents and use their internet, it works just fine over there. I would prefer not to use without encryption, just because I'm in a big apartment complex, and I don't want everyone and their mama on my internet. Is there another way to make it work?

I can't really help you more on the router question. I've never taken the time to really learn all that I should. In my opinion, a decent password without encryption is sufficient unless you have the NSA checking you out. Your could try WEP with encryption, but I had difficulty with that. Others are running fine with WPA. Again, not my forte.

Okay, just put the update on my nook through the B&N website...now waiting for it to install, and then I'll have to re-root. Yes? we shall see.
