Do I want this phone or the Galaxy s3?

Im sure this isnt the first time this question has been raised here, but I am really torn between the two phones.

Ive gone from BB's to a Palm Pre to another BB and now using a Samsung Conquer.

Im not a power user, I dont need 8 apps open to get through my day and I dont run a business from my phone.

I primarily use it for browsing, music, email, text and talk and a little game playing.

Ive never had a HTC phone and one of my concerns is support from the manufacturer and will they be around to provide it (look to the Palm Pre as to why I ask this ).

Ive read about every review I could find for both phones and when compared head to head it seems the LTE is the better phone, yet when I look around the forums I see that the S3 owners seem more content...

Ive talked to several reps from Sprint, Radio Shack and other 3rd party sellers and get a mix of answers for choosing one or the other...and none of the reasons are consistent or based on anything more what they have in their possession and one response of " because everyone WANTS the S3 omg!!!"

So please I want to buy this phone, and I wouldn't mind buying the S3 either, but I would like to hear something that would make me say this is the right purchase between the two.

Best thing to do is go to a sprint store or best buy and try them both out and see which one you like

Not sure what Im going to do... I want to get whatever I chose on Thursday but was hoping to get a case off Amazon today or tomorrow so I can have it ready for whichever phone I do end up getting.

I have always liked the super AMOLED screens on Samsung devices, but I have heard that the screens on the new HTC devices are comparable if not better. Putting the screens on an equal playing field, would choose the EVO. I like Sense better than touch wiz and with beats audio, the music experience should be better. I also like that the EVO has a kickstand.

The Evo 4g LTE device itself is great, the potential problem you could have is the carrier - Sprint.

Go to the Sprint forums and read all the network connectivity problems in your area. If the Evo 4G LTE was available on another carrier you might be set, but Sprint could suck badly in your area just like mine.

My phone call failure rate is about 75%. It usually takes about 4 attempts of making or receiving a call before it will work without disconnecting.

I would say the EVO LTE. I love mine. I did have a problem on the first two that I had, but this third one is great. Sprint service in my area is excellent, and pretty much anywhere that I have to travel it is great as well. The device is great and is really solid in your hand in or out of a case. The GS3, to me, felt kind of plastic and not as sturdy. I am not saying that it didn't look nice, but I just have a fondness for HTC. I had the OG EVO, 3VO, and now the LTE and I am more than happy with my decision. People definitely ask me about it when they see it and want to play with it. I have people who own the GS2, iPhone 4S, and Droid Razr wishing that owned the LTE instead after playing around with it. I guess it is really what you enjoy and want from a phone. Play with both in the store and see. I am very happy with my decision to get the EVO LTE.

I'll cast my vote for the Evo LTE. If the multitasking issue isn't a dealbreaker for your usage than I think it's definitely the superior phone. Higher quality hardware, a display that blows Samoled out of the water, and what's shaping up to be a pretty awesome development community. While HTC has made some bad business decisions, mainly in the marketting department, they're not going to meet the same fate that palm did anytime soon. I feel pretty confident in saying that the Evo LTE will get the Jelly Bean upgrade by the end of the year and then at least one more major Android version upgrade later down the line. As it is right now we'll be looking at some CM10 and Jelly Bean AOSP ROM's being fully functional pretty soon. Support shouldn't be an issue with this phone.

I would like to add one more thing for the OP. I have had numerous Samsung smartphones and I can tell you from experience that I didn't like the radios. I got very weak signals in comparison to other devices.

The EVO is a better phone. I had it for 12 days but had to return it because Sprints network sucked so bad. I have a ONE X and love it. Samsung takes forever to update their software.

-Best screen on the market
-solid build with a nice (mostly)aluminum body
-kickstand
-top tier specs
-pretty strong support from HTC

Cons for the EVO
-non removable battery
-1gb of RAM compared to the GSIII 2gb
-lack of accessory support compared to the GSIII
-Sense is still bloated and slows things down
-borked multi-tasking

Pros for the GSIII
-top tier specs +1(2gb RAM)
-huge amount of accessory support
-beautiful screen in its own right, just not quite what the EVO has
-huge dev community, mostly due to only minor variations across carriers
-proper multi-tasking

Cons for the GSIII
-Samsung is not known for their radios(although I have never had an issue)
-touch whiz may be worse than sense, although not quite as bloated
-poor support from Samsung in the past

Some will bring up build quality. Personally, I think that's crap. The only ones who seem to bring it up are HTC fanboys. I've had multiple phones from both companies. Samsung does use plastic, but so does HTC. The EVO LTE is the first HTC I've had that wasn't a plastic body. Samsung phones are extremely well built. They take a beating. I actually had far more hardware problems, and read about far more in the forums, with the OG EVO than I did with any Samsung phone. Build quality between the two is a push.

All that being said, I'm perfectly happy with my EVO. If both were out when I purchased, I probably would have tried them both out. Real world tests between the two show a pretty equal user experience when it comes to speed. Hope this helped

Choosing is as simple as

BEtter screen(evo) vs removeable battery(S3)
Shiity Multitasking(evo) vs Real multitasking(s3)

I primarily use it for browsing, music, email, text and talk and a little game playing.

If that is true then its as simple as getting the EVO and trying out the phone if you don't have problems with the horrible multitasking then its the better phone for you.

I've owned an htc g1 on Tmobile and samsung galaxy s2 on sprint. Let me tell you the htc g1 was a total headache for me. It was very buggy and even some of the most basic features were unreliable. Fast forward to the gs2 on sprint and I've had 0 issues with that phone. It was amazing in every sense. Until they put out ics that is, but the issues cropped up from that are already being addressed.

Now I'm back on an htc device with the evo 4g lte, and I can't help but think that HTC's level of QA and support is far behind that of Samsung's. Maybe I got lucky with my gs2, but this is twice now that I've been unsatisfied with htc. I say go with the gs3, you're really not sacrificing anything except for display quality. But the gs3 is so good in that area as well you won't be disappointed. A marginal adv in video quality and beats by dre tech is the only adv the htc has. If you can settle without those two s3 all the way.

This. I had the same dilemma in choosing between the same two phones but ultimately went with the EVO for the reasons quoted...though I was a little biased from the start because I loved my OG EVO so much. Overall I'm happy with my decision, my only sense of buyer's remorse comes from the fact that the GS3 is getting more dev love at the moment, but hopefully that will change soon since the source was just released recently (GS3 source has been out for a while).

I was recently in a Sprint store and was almost afraid to check out the GSIII for fear of buyers remorse about my Evo. Between the screen (absolutely not even close), how ugly Touchwiz is compared to Sense (not that big of a deal really, either will eventually be replaced on mine), and just the way each felt in my hand, I had one of those "when you pry it from my cold dead hands: moments regarding my Evo. Granted those second two items are kind of subjective, but for me at least, out of the two best phones available, the Evo is the clear winner.

To the poster who said that the build quality argument was garbage, I really do know where you are coming from on a certain level. OTOH, hold one in each hand and it is nearly impossible not to come away with at least the perception that one is of a much higher quality build. Granted, a true assessment of build quality has to be based on a lot more than that, and the GSIII would fare a lot better after a true assessment, but it is hard to hold the Evo in your hand and not be truly impressed. At my age, maybe I just forget easily, but I am still continually surprised and how solid it feels when I pick it up.
