is it possible to get something similar to DND from the iPhone to the nexus 4? I need to be able to get calls from a few people at night, but don't want the phone going off for all calls, emails & texts

Thanks im looking for something someone here is or has been using rather than downloading 50 apps to find one that works best.

Try Llama. I've been playing with it , and am just scratching the surface of what it can do. You can definitely set sound profiles to have "noisy contacts" and you can trigger them a lot of different ways including time of day.

I've come from iPhone 4 to Nexus 4 and have looked around the apps but personally I don't consider there is anything currently on Android equivalently simple and featured as the native iOS "do not disturb" function. :(

That's because the iphone does one thing well. Android let's you customize every aspect of the phone to a ridiculous degree. Android is more complicated to set up initially, but you can do SO much more with it.
