No need for it to remain on the SD card. You can place it in a folder on you pc for future use. I do like to keep at least one backup Rom on the card just in case.

I would suggest keeping one on the card.

When I installed cm7 I got boot loops. Did a nandroid back and got boot loops. The only thing that saved me at that time was having cm6 on my phone. Flashed zip and all was well.

+1 for keeping at least one .zip file on the card. Doesn't take up that much space. Never know when you might need it.

No you don't need the zips but I agree, one is nice insurance. Also, you can do a Nand restore of something not on your card. the Nand restores are stored in a seperate file on your SD card. If you are using clockwork recovery they are in the clockwork folder. I go in that folder and rename them so I know what I am backing up to. If I leave it just as dates I will probably forget what it is.

Please let a newbie ask one more time for clarification... if I have downloaded a ROM .zip file, flashed it, and subsequently made a Nandroid backup of that ROM, do I really need to keep that .zip file on the SD card? Especially if I've since upgraded to subsequent versions of that ROM and have made Nandroid backups of them, too? I'm now on Das BAMF Remix 1.63... what good is the .zip file of 1.6 to me now?

No you do not have to keep the .zip file on your SD card.

Well, I have to disagree with the space comment. I am a flash-a-holic and didn't realize how many ROM zips I had on my SD card. I removed a bunch of them and freed up almost 1GB of space! But I do agree with keeping a copy of the ROM zip that you are currently using, just in case you need to reflash it.

But to answer your questions specifically, no it doesn't need to remain on the SD card once you have flashed it. And it doesn't need to be on the SD card to do a nandroid restore.

There are differences in what's required and what's good practice, so if you are hard up for 200mb of space, then you can remove it. If 200mb of space isn't hurting you any, then it's probably a good idea to keep it on the SD card, just in case.
