do you gain much with new themes and roms?

my phone is rooted and I have noticed it performing better. I am unable to flash a rom or a theme or whatever though.

tried it 100 times now and nothing ever changes so i figure screw it, will just stick with what I have now.

i want to know if it does improve the phone though. while the designs look neat and all, im fine with altering the look of the phone with programs like beautiful widgets and stock features on the phone, so that is of no significance to me.

what i want to know is if these phones perform better with these roms and themes. or is it just to make the phone look cooler.

i do have titanium backup that freezes the bloatware as well, so i have everything i dont want frozen.

You can definitely get better performance with a custom ROM. It sounds like you haven't flashed CWM, which is why you're not seeing the ROMs stick. And for themes, you have to be running a ROM that supports themes.

i open rom manager. hit flash clockworld recovery, select the fascinate, and it says its flashed successfully.

for example, i tried to install blackhole 3.0

i downloaded it from rom manager. when it was done, it brought me to the rom pre install screen, selected bacup existing rom and wipe data. click ok.

then get a screen that says reboot and install. click ok, and nothing ever happens. it never reboots and installs.

Unfortunately with the fascinate you also have to flash cwm with odin before you flash in rom manager

anyway to import my old contacts? after i did the odin flash, i had to reroot and lost all my apps. my apps and info are still in the sd card, but i never exported my contacts.

not really a big deal if i cant get them back, but would be nice so i dont have to re-enter them all. thanks.

All of your contacts are backed up to your gmail account by default. If you did change that setting then try setting up back up assistant, if you did this when you set up the phone originally they'll come back down from backup assistant as well.

ok thanks. and 1 more question. how do i get all my apps back to the applications area on the phone. right now everything is in the sd card. thanks.

Depending on what app you used to back them up you restore them one at a time. With Titanium you'll go under the middle tab, and hit menu, batch, and restore the apps you want to restore.

You can also export your contacts to SD card (settings-->more-->export/import), then you can import them any time you want.

thanks. i messed up. didnt follow instructions, and now im in the force close crap. i read that and have everything set up, but dont have an sd card reader.

is there anyway to get around not having an sd card reader? if not, i will go get one tomorrow.

i put a partial version of blackhole on incorrectly. the screen loaded up and it was all black. i was able to get out of blackhole and back to stock fascinate somehow. forget what i did.

once i got into stock, i ran into the force close issue.

titanium backup would because it freezes bloatware.

btw i finally got blackhole on here. looks great.

only problem i have now is the keys dont stay backlit.

That's because of your DL01 kernel, you'll wanna flash DL09 (DJ05 may fix this but i'm not too well informed on it). When I ended up in force close loop I booted into recovery and did a factory reset and that fixed it. From there I was able to rebuild by downloading Titanium Backup and restoring all the app data I had backed up before.

If I were to install z4root and install titanium back-up, would it increase performance on my phone?

If you are on DL09, z4root will no longer work for rooting, and TiB allows you to backup, freeze, and restore apps and app data, but you need to be rooted to use it. It won't necessarily improve perfomance, but you can freeze the bloat as someone already suggested
