do you miss the headphone jack?

I'm very glad the headphone jack is gone! I love using my state-of-the-art Sony wireless noise canceling WH-1000XM2 headphone. I really enjoy the freedom from not having to deal with dangling wires. It's really cool that Android 8 now incorporates the LDAC technology that the Sony WH-1000XM2 wireless headphone utilizes.

There are some trade offs to going wireless but it is definitely convenient. Does that model support wired as well?

Actually doesn't have to be headphone specific. Someone just needs to make a long dongle corded DAC.

That totally defeats the purpose. I don't want a dongle. The Shure is designed with replaceable cords. I want a cord with a good DAC to replace the one I have now. NO DONGLES.

I don't understand. How does the presence of a headphone jack preclude you from using your Sony headphone?

That's what I meant I just called it a dongle. I meant a corded DAC

I think a lot of the wireless fans just feel since they don't use it they don't need it so why have it. All of these high-end phones are losing the Jack eventually. It started with Moto then iPhone then HTC, and Google. There another less popular brand too. Samsung is next.
Quite honestly a lot of cell phone audio output can't drive the good stuff or just lacks in quality except to the Casual listener. That's why I was using an LG v20. I was going to upgrade to the lgv30 but I want impressed with the camera and wanted Google updates so I was ready to give up that headphone jack. I was all set to buy an external DAC for the pixel but when I heard the audio with its stock dongle I decided I really don't need it.

The downside on that is that you'll get limited on the kind of cords you can use with your Shures. The Shure cables aren't really the best you can get for those IEMs. Many Audiophiles I've met upgrade their Shures with aftermarket cables.

The dongle might be the best compromise now that I think about it.

I haven't used a headphone jack in my past few phones.. even when they had it.

So nope :).

Good luck with that. I have done a lot of research, and I have only found crap. I don't think I have ever found one with more than 2.5 star reviews. The key here is that I want in-ear, not over the ear like AirPods. And carrying around big clamp-on types is not an option. I want something I can put in my pocket. Maybe someday there will be a good set available, but until then, this really sucks...

Get the Jaybird X3 They are really good, I think they are on sale now too for $99 down from $129

Yeah, it's kind of an inconvenience but not something that drives my purchase decisions. I also hate how they give me a white dongle when I choose to buy a black device. Smh. #FirstWorldProblems

Here is a typical review. Notice that none of these problems would happen on an "old fashioned" corded headset.

"I bought these to replace my two-year old Bluebuds about 6 months ago. I used those headphones heavily (1.5 to 8 hours per day nearly every single day). They were mostly solid, but would cut out depending on the location of my phone.

They finally died so I got the X3. They were probably 70% as useful, the app and ability to modify the EQ was cool, dual-pairing isn’t as useful as you’d think it is, and these cut out quite a bit more. They also lose a connection completely for seemingly no reason fairly often. I did appreciate the effort to make them even more sweat proof (I use them in the gym every day) but the extra dongle for charging was extremely annoying to keep track of and I almost lost it once. It is a $10 charge for a new accessory kit to replace it.

The nail in the coffin was about a month ago they refused to turn on despite having been fully charged and used earlier that morning. I am not able to ‘reset’ them as they often recommend. I have tried everything, charging them for a full day and turning them on again, leaving them to hopefully die over the course of a few weeks, charging again, nothing. I am fairly careful with these and my old ones lasted ~2 years with what was probably heavier usage. It seems a lot of other users are having this issue.

I touted these to friends and bought a pair for my girlfriend, but unfortunately I am now done with Jaybird products."

Lol 'typical' review... No it's not.

Jaybirds don't just all randomly die and don't turn on. I've had mine since January of last year and they are better, and the connection is stronger than the bluebuds/X1
He probably had a bad unit. They ones I have have lost connection but it's maybe 5% or less of the time. The connection is pretty damn strong.

I will agree with the stupid dongle thing, I wish there was a better way to charge them.

Why didn't he replace them? Jaybird replaced my bluebuds 2 years and change after I bought them for no charge.

We get it, you miss the headphone jack. You can still use corded headphones with this phone you just have to use the adapter. If that doesn't work for you, buy another phone with a headphone jack. Android has tons of choice. Yea corded headphones never have the same problem, I mean their cords never fray, or connector break, or become lose.... No they never do that.

I use my Jaybird Bluebuds for 1-4 hours every day and they've been problem- free for 2.5 years now. Sounds like bad luck for that guy.

Whomever he got the 'review' from was def a bad unit. I had the bluebuds for 2.5 years before the sweat coating failed and they died. They then sent me a new pair, no questions asked. I've had the X3's now for a year, and they are great.

Weird my Bluetooth headset I bought almost 4 years ago still lasts me all day at work.

I miss it some. The dongle works fine for me though so it mitigates some of the problems. I use BT headphones too, so music listening isn't really the issue. Sometimes I need to be on a work call in my car, and don't want to use BT so I can have a better connection. There are almost zero affordable USB-C headphones with mics around. The dearth of those is amazing actually. There might be 1 or 2 under $50 with mics, pretty crazy. Again, using a dongle on one of my old 3.5mm ones works, but it's not the most convenient thing.

Anyway, it's fine for me for the most part, but the removal of the 3.5mm port is still - and always - a dumb move by Google.
