Do you need a Class 4 microSD card or will class 2 be ok to stop the freeze/reboot??

I'm having phone freezing problems out the wazoo. I've tried everything from resetting the phone, deleting all apps, etc. I have a completely stock phone that still freezes way too often.

My last attempt to fix this will be getting a new microSD card, as many have suggested this as the cause.

I don't care about the speed of the card, and I don't care about it's capacity... I don't store music or lots of photos on my phone anyways. All I want is to make my phone not freeze up. If this requires a new SD card, so be it, but I'd like to not spend a bunch of money on one.

I thought I read somewhere on here that people suggested getting a Class 4 microSD card to get rid of the freezing problems, but I can't find that post so now I'm wondering if I am imagining things.

So, what size and class microSD card is suggested simply to stop the freezes? Do I need a class 4 to stop the freezes or is a class 2 enough, and it's simply a matter of having an SD card that is something "other than the original crappy SD card that the phone came with".

I personally am using a class 4 4gb card that I formatted in the phone, then transferred the files from the card that came with phone. I was having problems before, but none since the above.

Class 2 is fine. I have a SandDisk 4GB card that's apparently a class 2 (or at least, it's got a C with a 2 in it, which I understand is the Class 2 marking) and it works just fine.

I'm sure a class 4 performs better, but it's not needed if all you're looking at is making your phone more stable. Just get anything that's not the stock card. As for what to do with the stock card?

I suggest fire. Lots of fire D:

I had that phone to and I used to get error ejected sdcard unexpectedly so I formatted that sdcard on a PC and also made it a fat 32 when formatting then I got a new 16gb class 2 sdcard same crappy brand Samsung and I ran into big problems as well that sdcard sad bad sdcard you might have to reformat I didn't have a PC to backup my files i just went and went into recovery mode and partitioned my sdcard and somehow that deleted everything and the sdcard started working perfectly fine but in the optimus s phone started to lag and freeze I got the Evo and used the same card and it did the same thing to my evo but in a different way it started dirtying up certain parts that where needed to keep my phone running smooth I tried to format the sdcard and see if it would work again but it was a no go and now whenbi try to do anything just sticking the sdcard in other brand new phones to maybe partion it again but it says sdcard dameged when did nothing crazy at all but load music on it and download all my roms but just format your sdcard and see if that gets things going or just get a new sdcard and you should be good

I went into my sprint store and told them the problems I was having and troubles amd they gave me a free 2g and I haven't had a problem since. So if u don't want to spend any money I would try that first. ;)

I have a Kinsgton 8gb card that has no issues... (that's a class 4 sdhc card)...
I have a Sandisk 16GB card that has no issues and is a class 2 card...

I used a disk performance test against my 16gb card and by the results returned on that, it could have pretty easily classed as a class 4 card.

I should mention I never really tried the stock LG card that came in it... however my wife hasn't complained that her phone's been doing weird stuff...

I'm using a 16gb class 2 Samsung I got on ebay. Formatted it on my PC, transferred everything from the old one to the new one over pc, and have had no problems.

I went and bought a 2gb C2 PNY microSD card at Best Buy since i wanted one in a hurry so that I can have some testing time before my 30 day return policy is up. I went to put the card in just now, and noticed something which dismayed me:

It looks to me like the PNY is the exact same card as what came in the phone in the first place. Serial number is in the same format, model number is the same. Awesome. So now if I have any freeze reboot issues with this new card, I STILL won't know if it's a problem with the phone, or if it's just that this particular model of SD card sucks, since the old one and the new one happen to be the same model. Fabulous. I can't tell you how excited I am at having to do all this troubleshooting and dcking around just to get a phone that doesn't constantly become unusable.

oh that sux....totally frustrating. have you tried calling you local sprint store? i took a closer look at the one they gane me on my cpu and ironically enough it is a blackberry card and it works just fine.

phone also restarted on me in the middle of a phone conversation. So that's one freeze and one reboot within like 3 hours of installing the new SD card. i'm taking the phone back tomorrow to exchange it for a new one, thinking maybe the phone itself is bad.

I had major issues with my Optimus prior to switching to a class 4 for card. I wouldn't recommend class 2. I actually had my device replace because of the constant issues with freezing and SD spontaneously unmounting. Since I got the class 4 card and formatted it on my PC, prior to installing it in my device, everything is running as it should.

Some of this is the card, and some can be attributed to the phone design... (didn't have this sort of problem with any of my other android phones...)

I bought a 8gb class 2 card for my Optimus and I am still getting the unmounting of SD Card message and random reboots, although it does not occur as often as with the stock SD card. Just purchased a class 4 a couple of days ago lol

SD card should be fine at "generic" class is only a measure of speed via data transfer.....

Know I don't see this with a sandisk 16 gb card (class 2) out with a kingston card (class 4)...

We've got two Optimus S's here. One worked great on the stock SD card. Ordered a 16Gb class 4 for it (still waiting for it to arrive.). Other one constantly unmounted OEM 2Gb card. In a hurry to fix that problem, I picked up an 8Gb class 2 card from Microcenter (their generic one.) It works great in that phone.

If you are using any type of ap2sd a class 6 is much better :) They dont cost much more, find it on newegg or ebay...
