I don't know about TMobile or ATT, but on Verizon Edge you are NOT getting an upgrade (subsidized phone). You get no discount at all; merely the full price of the phone is broken up into 24 installments. Thus with Verizon Edge, you are not only paying full price for your service (which includes the price of a subsidized phone) but you are paying full price for the phone, too.

Verizon Edge does not make financial sense at all. And it is not an upgrade. You pay full price.

So Verizon does NOT upgrade for 24 months as I said.

BUT, (if Edge is like Next) you ARE entitled to trade in that phone after 12 months for another phone. So technically speaking, you CAN upgrade every 12 months if don't mind paying the subsidy on a phone you don't get to keep.

I did the math and Next makes absolute no financial sense. I image Edge is quite similar. Nonetheless, companies do offer an upgrade after a year (at a cost).

It is pretty well understood that when someone says that you can upgrade every 24 months(or whatever term it may be) , they mean upgrade at contract pricing. By your definition, you can upgrade every day at full retail price if so desired...

Phone subsidy means that the carrier subsidies the phone, meaning that they sell it to you at a lower cost, in exchange for you signing a contract agreeing to maintain their service for 24 months (or some other term).

Installment plan means that you are not getting a subsidized pricing, but paying full retail and spreading the phone's cost over a certain term (1 year, 2 years, etc)

I get a new one every year anyway.. I sell the old and Pay for the New. Oct I sold my note 2, 7 cases, 5 batteries, charging dock, etc in less than a hour on eBay.. Next October it will be the same situation only this time there will be a watch included... I will have the galaxy note 4 on launch day.

The carriers recoup the cost of the subsidized phones in their wireless plan pricing so unless you get a discount on your wireless plan when you opt for Verizon's Edge program, you are paying for your phone twice! It makes no sense at all to opt for Verizon's Edge program.

If you need an installment plan, go with Best Buy's 18 months no interest credit and pay it off in installments over 18 months.

Not the OP but I do this and I buy first and sell later. That is what credit cards are for.

OK, so not exactly paying for the phone twice, but paying $420 more for your phone.

It depends on the deal you get. I picked standard pricing. But For example, you could have gotten the g2 for free with $200 visa prepaid card, or the note 3 for $200 with $200 visa prepaid card on Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday . In these cases, taking into account the visa prepaid card, you would be pretty close to paying for the phone twice.

Yes that's why there is a big discrepancy in edge (anywhere from 400-670,depending on the deal you get.

TMobile uncarrier has basically removed the subsidized cost from their pricing.

Att mobile share will reduce your bill by $15 when you are off contract. So, say you buy an iPhone, you would pay $60 per month for unlimited talk text and 300mb data. After your two months are up, you would pay $45 per month for the same plan. Alternatively, you can use att next plan and pay $45 /mo for the aforementioned plan.

On att mobile share value plan or tmobile uncarrier, the next or jump plans make sense, financially speaking. On Verizon, edge doesn't make sense, financially speaking.

I sell after New one is in hand. Don't what happened to my edit. I sold a few days before launch and told buyer I will ship in 2 days. I shipped on launch day 2 days after sold.

I am thinking the same way. No way, Samsung is going to come with something medicore. If they go Note 4, it is going to be a killer, and I am going to jump on like hot on rice!!

BTW, I am enjoying Tmobile Jump.. Which includes my insurance. Hope I never have to use the insurance..
