Do you use Samsung Pay?

Have you guys used Samsung Pay with a chip card?
I tried it the other day in starbucks, and then it asked for me to insert the chip card - which obviously negated the point, because I then had to fish my wallet out to pay.
My card has a chip and I use it all the time at other places. I think it's just the Starbucks reader. Mine won't work there when I use Samsung pay.

I was at Starbucks this morning. Tried to use my phone to pay and it error'd twice. I tried my Gear S2 watch and it went right through. Their card readers are rather touchy it seems

From what I understand, there is a flag encoded into the magnetic stripe of every credit and debit card that tells the terminal whether the card has a chip. That's why if you try to swipe your physical card on most chip enabled terminals, it will ask you to insert the card instead. But when you use Samsung Pay, the phone beams a virtual card number (different from the real one on your physical card) with the flag set to indicate that it doesn't have a chip.

What a great explanation! Thanks for that!

Yes. All of my cards are chip cards and they all work fine. Could it be your bank?

Love using Samsung pay. I used it at the gas station today and the lady cashier goes ”coooool”. My response? Yep, very cool. Lol

I was using it at Home depot yesterday. Cashier by the self scans said "that won't work " and I said "Yes it will". She was very intrigued when it worked.

I had this issue last week at CVS. I think it's more of a terminal issue, not the card as I've had a chip card since I first started using Samsung pay.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but you can buy select gift cards for 20% off through the end of the month.

I have been using samsung pay for under a month and just cashed in 2 x $50 off samsung.com and $10 reward for two referrals. So glad I switched back to android. I never used apple pay because it didn't work in a lot of places.
