Do you use the stock text app.

I use Google Voice. So I've traded emoji and MMS in exchange for not paying Verizon for texts. Still trying to figure out if that's a good deal, but I guess it works most of the time!

No, you can't. You can change the background for each individual conversation, but not the background when viewing the list of all conversations.

You said "conversation view" guess I thought you meant conversation view. That's why I tried to help and answer your question that way.

I DO NOT! definitely prefer the Sliding Messaging app. It's the best thing since sliced bread! Give it a try, you'll love it.

I tried it and it just keeps locking up on me. Had to uninstall it. You are using it on your Note 3? It worked on my Nexus.

An app called floating notification will do exactly that. It also has an extension so you can reply directly from the chat head. Awesome app, makes any messenger that much better, including stock.

I saw this app listed above in this thread. Tried it for a few hours, I like it but it still isn't as good for me as Facebook messenger. I may not have all the settings correct. I wanted it to work for me. I would like to use the stock texting app, but for example, I received a second text from someone while answering a first. I could hear the notification but then had to open the messenger to see that text. When you tap a chat head in FB messenger it opens a chat window instead of a quick response window. If you tap the chat heat again, the window closes into the head again until you tap it again (I hope that made sense).

Another nice feature is you can easily switch to sending the message through FB. This allows me to send over wifi if I'm deep inside a bldg and have no cell signal. This is common for me when I go to the grocery store.

Cool beans. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to refer to them since they don't really have headers. The all conversations view says "messages" and the individual conversation view just has the name or number. I couldn't find anything in the settings that refers to either view by name. To me, the "messages" view is where I view my conversations and the individual conversation is where I view a message.

yes, I have it on my GN2 and my GN3. No issues here. Have you tried the support forum on Google+?

I couldn't stand the default txt app. I currently have ChompSMS installed. Mainly cause i went from iphone to N3 and Chomp reminded me a lot of BiteSMS.

I've also been using the facebook messenger which does some nice migration with contacts, but it lacks the pop up notification/reply option.95% of the time I do a nice quick reply using that feature within ChompSMS. I don't really need/use any other functions though. If anyone knows a way for the FB messenger to give me a popup/quick reply box that would be great!

I knew to android, but Chomp is great...at least so far.

Turn on the chat heads, that is what they are for.

Connert - I hvae the chat heads on, but it just shows their picture with how many (by a #) msgs they left. It would also be nice if they could incorporate a function that gave a "quick reply" option like chomp and bitesms provide. Not need to open the actual msg then...small box to just reply to.

When I tap on the chat head it opens a chat window for texting. When I tap it the second time it closes the window back into the head. You can drag the heads around the screen to keep out of the way of other task you may be doing. They will also stack and line up with different users across the screen for you to choose from. I'm going to look for a YouTube video of this to post a link.

This isn't necessarily the greatest video but if you watch it all the way through you will see what I'm saying. I have my FB messenger set as the main SMS app (settings in FB messenger) and have the notifications turned off in the stock texting app.

You need to dl the extension I was writing about. If you go into the app, there's a menu for extensions. You can add that to it and respond without having to open the app. It's awesome.

I downloaded the sms extension, but that's the only one I could find. My issue was during my quick reply to a text, the person that had text me sent another text. I could hear the notification for the second text as I was replying to the first. When I finished the first reply and sent it, the only way I could find D the second text that had been sent to me (during my reply to the first) was to open the text app. (I hope that is clear.)

I apologize, I got it now. But I still have an issue. When I get a second text like you speak of, the second text appears in the that sane bubble. I just have to hit the chat head again.

That may be the answer. I didn't know that. I will play around with it some more, thanks.

Great thread everybody. Because of this i played with all of the options and decided to go with Chomp SMS. its great customization without being over the top like GO SMS. Textra wasn't as customizable as Chomp.
