Dock changes ringtones and goes silent?

I just got the dock, and I want my droid in it on my desk. It looks nice and I was pleased, until I noticed that when my wife called me the phone didn't ring.

After some playing, here is what I found.

I have a MP3 ringtone for the default ringtone. In the dock, the phone does not use that MP3 ringtone, it uses a different ringing sound.

I have a different MP3 ringtone for my wife. In the dock, the phone will not play that ringtone at all and just shows the call on the screen. Out of the dock, it works fine.

Has anyone seen an issue like this? I have the new OS update (it applied this morning) but I just got the dock, too, so I think this is a dock thing and not an OS update thing. But I'm not at all sure what to do about it.

Is the dock plugged into your pc? When you dock it, does your sdcard become available on your pc? If it is, then the sdcard is no longer available to the phone to use. This is the same thing that happens on BB.

Dude, you ROCK. That nailed it. I have it hooked to the computer, and I just automatically mounted the SD card figuring why not.

So to check your theory and did not mount the SD card, and everything worked.

I would have to say it's a bug though - the default behavior of my wife's calls having NO ring tone at all and just being silent was pretty bad. It should have defaulted to an audible ring tone. Is there a place to report bugs like that?

But I am delighted to understand this and be able to avoid it!

Or you could use a stock ringtone. Once Rooted you could move you MP3 to the device off the SD card and would have no problem. Dont think its a bug, but easy to get around once rooted.

it's not a bug, the phone is looking for the file you chose as the ringtone but can't find it, so it goes and tries the default ringtone you set, and can't find that either. there's no course of action beyond whatever the default ringtone is, so it doesn't know what to do.

I would think it is a bug just because my wife's MP3 ringtone doesn't move to a default ringtone but just goes silent. If it went to a default ringtone it'd be good, but ... going silent is bad!
