Does a black wallpaper use less battery?

I'm not up on my screen technology enough to know this for sure. I know some screen types use less energy on a black screen, so having a black wallpaper saves some battery. Is that also true with the IPS display? I assume so, but thought I'd ask.

I don't think it matters in an ips lcd screen... The whole thing has to be lit regardless of what color a pixel is.

The advantage of amoled comes in here as each pixel is responsible for putting out it's own light.... So pure black requires essentially no energy.

This as why amoled will always produce better blacks than lcd, lcd is always going to produce some light no matter how dark the black it's trying to produce is.

Thanks. I noticed that the whole screen was coming out last night with NoLed. I guess I'll stop using that and hope for the best with LightFlow which seems to work about 85% of the time. Not sure why it randomly doesn't work. And I'll find a pic instead of the black background I'd been using

I don't normally stay all that on top of screen technology, but I'd agree with what was said above. Amoled screens can benefit from black however as those pixels are actually off on completely black backgrounds, which is why Amoled blacks often look darker then on LCDs. I was a big fan of Samsung's SAMOLED+ screens for a long time, but I'll take this LG screen any day of the week and twice on Sundays. It's really amazing.

Its not necessarily "worrying" about it. Just trying to maximize my battery life. Its 2013 btw.
