does anyone actually think we are getting root?

Simple enough question. The ultra section of xda is pretty quite. Even if root is possible if no one is going to be working on it......

Pretty quiet... That's a nice way of putting it. Seems like AC and AF are the only places talking about it. I'm hoping the exploit for moto x works on the droids.

Well I don't know what is normal for those forums. I did not root my gnex till a year after I got it. I have never had to wait for root.how long can it take.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for root. Fortunately, I'm finding the phone pretty darn good without it. There's one or two root features I'm missing, though.

We might get some moto X cross over love, but if not having root is a deal breaker for you, I would not get this phone because it doesn't seem to be in the near future.

Could take a long time. Depends on how secure software is. Sometimes it's a tiny exploitable loophole that makes root a piece of cake. Other times, it software is pretty well buttoned up, and it requires lot of reverse engineering to break it.

My guess would be root doesn't happen until the Verizon Moto X hits the market and has soaked in the market for a while. The Droid Maxx/Ultra are Verizon's male alpha phone from a marketing demographics segment. The Moto X is the iPhone of Android devices and is targeted at a wider audience. There will be more general interest to root the Moto X given its market reach. I'm sure Ultra/Maxx roots follow after that given they are practically identical phones.

I would love root but I'm not expecting it for some months, probably next year if we even get it.

The only thing I miss is Google wallet.my understanding is without root that is a no go.Isis does not support any mainstream options.

I'm not holding my breath the exploit to get root for my bionic was a pain you have to use linux. I mean it is simple now but in the beginning it was a nightmare not to mention the amount of time put into finding the new exploit. I think that if you want root on a moto device in the future you better get an unlocked phone. As long as fox fi eventually works on the maxx root is not that big of a deal for me unless you want to use rom's then your SOL. What sucks is romtool box will be usless and not being able to make backups sucks as well. So customization will be limited like fonts and boot animations.

ISIS works for payments everywhere that Google Wallet does... They both use PayPass terminals. ISIS actually works in more places, they've got PayPass and their own ISIS dedicated payment terminals.

ISIS does only support Amex and Chase credit cards. I've got both, and Amex is all I ever pay for anything with, so this isn't a limitation for me.

I'd love to see Wallet as an option, but ISIS at least works out of the box.

I would love to use Isis.but I don't have an american express or chase card and it is the stupidest thing in the world to expect me to get one. If Isis truly worked, I'd is it. The fact thathey block wallet is bad enough, but when they finally release their response, it use useless for most people.

Sorry had to vent there for a bit. The real question is, is any one currently working on root. Any one know any one?

Yes. I saw a tweet suggesting someone was trying. They weren't getting too far.

Re: ISIS vs Google Wallet. I recall that when Google first pushed Wallet it would only let you use a Citi credit card. I didn't have one, but I got one so I could use Wallet. Whatever card you have might get added, especially if you ask.

Wallet only let's you use whatever card you want through a hack of credit card numbers that the card issuers are not happy about. Google may have to cease the practice some day.

Worth noting that ISIS stops working with root. So either root detection has to be disabled in the ISIS app or you have to have an unroot handy before paying.

Amex is a great card depending on where you live. Here in NYC, I haven't used anything but Amex in the last 10 years except to get my hair cut and reluctantly have to pay with a Visa or cash. But the year I spent living in the Bay Area, Amex was limited to large chains and tourist focused venues. But with VISA HQ out there, SF is VISA country. Credit card politics for you -- just as bad as carrier politics but for now there's no sign of either letting up.

I can't see myself pulling the trigger on any of the Droids without root. I might be able to live without using certain apps like AdAway, Greenify and TB, but I use Cerberus for device tracking/security and I always install it under root with the hopes that, if ever stolen, the dingbat that does the stealing isn't smart enough to do anything other than doing a device reset. I could probably survive without wallet, but I like having it there if the situation arises where I leave my wallet at home or for those times when my finicky debt card decides it doesn't like being scanned.

I guess I'm sticking with the GNex, despite really looking forward to the Maxx.

How many phones don't end up with a method for root eventually? (Honest question, I don't know. It just seems like most do, even if it takes a while.) I would expect that between the three droid models plus the motox, it's more of a question of when than if. But they've been out for a week (and not easy to buy for some, I'm still waiting on mine, should be tomorrow), so it's not surprising that no one has solid answers about what it's going to take.

I would say the vast majority do. That said, I think you should buy a device for what it is and not what you think it will be. In other words, if you buy a phone that doesn't have root available, don't expect to get it. If you want Android 4.3 and the phone comes with Android 4.2.2, don't assume it'll get an update.

Too many people buy a device based on empty promises and what they think will come. Personally, I think the Maxx is a home run but if you need root you need root.... and the Maxx simply doesn't have it. It might take 6 months to get it and 6 months from now the next greatest thing will probably be here.

I'm hoping for root so I can reinstall my apps from TiBu. I already have my last backup on the phone just in case.

I am happy with the droid MAXX the way it is and wont return it. However, this whole google wallet mess and ISIS being very limited due to the cards its supports is very frustrating. I would only use root for the ability to regain google wallet.

See, I dont really see a need for the recovery or a bootloader unlock. i am happy with everything else, but thanks to verizon and ATT, an entire piece of technology is useless.
