While I agree with all of your points, I have 0% confidence that this system will ever change. I think the future of Android is in the Nexus. Google knows this, and they're pushing their phones for about $50 more than you could get a new phone on Verizon WITH a 2 year contract. Their attitude is more of "we're moving on, screw you guys (Moto, HTC, Sammy, etc.) The problem is that we're at the mercy of those OEMs.
That said, there's 0 chance we're getting Jelly Bean. Isn't "end of life" status for a phone about 8-12 months after release? We're tied to the Razr, and that baby is in death range.
Agreed. I don't think it will change either. And you know what, the Razr Maxx is freaking awesome. So if we don't get JB I wont be too extremely heartbroken. However I do intend to support Google in their Nexus plans. I will probably make the jump to a Nexus device when my contract is up with the Maxx.
The reason for that, is because I want fewer roadblocks between me and an OTA when it is available. Also, as you mentioned, that is the direction Google is headed because Moto, HTC, Samsung have all been shooting themselves in the foot with their non-nexus devices.
