Does it bother you that you're phone isn't "cool"

Hip, chic, sexy, popular, whatever. The Droid 2 doesn't appear to be a member of the "in crowd" at the moment. Not that this hasn't always been obvious, but it became even more so after noticing the almost simultaneous "discovery" of the fact that you can hack the phone to enable the FM Radio only as of this week-when that hack has in fact been around for almost a month. I even posted a screenshot of my phone running the mod on Sept 2nd. in this thread:http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-2/30681-post-your-droid-2-screens.html#post324778

Anyway, one thing I've noticed amongst the tech community-mobile tech in particular, is that people are often influenced by others opinions on their device. My question to anyone who bothers to listen, is do YOU care? and if so, how much?

Ha, I do not care what other people think about my device (D2) or what ROM I am running (stock rooted). Frankly, I do not know much about Android but I enjoy learning about how it works. For me this more of a hobby, trying to duplicate problems and then solve them as that is how I learn.

Like yesterday I spent most of the day trying to get the FMRadio app you mentioned above working. Well. I hunted and hunted on the forums and net trying to figure out where the link to the files resided, then once I had them, where to put them in order to make the instructions work. Finally after I did it my way, I found a complete set of instructions, ran them and it worked fine.

When I got done, all I had was a working radio that picked up one station out here in the boonies, and only plays on the right side speaker. A useless endeavor except for what I learned.

The only reason I can see it not being as "cool" as the other new phones is because it is so much like the D1, side by side they almost look like the same phone. Just a few minor differences. I would bet if they changed the looks or even just the screen size then this phone would be getting a lot more attention

I'm so pissed I can't edit my thread title: "you're" was obviously meant to be "your"

Honestly man, you're (I got it right this time around) not missing anything with the ROMS that are released for the Droid 2, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Some people just hack their phone because they can, not because its actually necessary. Until someone can provide some linpack or Quadrant benches that show that their phone has actually improved with a different ROM, I wouldn't even bother. Getting back the space by removing apps and widgets offers little advantage to a phone with 8GB of internal storage. They potentially give you more RAM on boot, but the way Android actively manages processes I don't see anything worthwhile from that either.

I did, however, deodex my phone so I can install a different theme. but that was purely for aesthetics. Obviously changing the color of a status bar, and framework graphics do nothing to make the phone more functional.

dont let the your thing get ya, I didnt even notice and I usually pick up on those things right away.

I hack to remove the crap on the phone I dont want, I am sick of this city ID thing popping up asking me if I want to buy it the fact that I said no and it just keeps coming up is really making me POed! I have no problem with vzw putting stuff on our phones to try and make some money but when they add something that is going to keep coming up and pestering me to buy it with no way to remove it then that is just wrong.

I said yes to it initially, which starts off the trial period. After it is over, I said no to not continue, and I never saw it again. That was pretty lame of VZW, though. I'm not happy with what they're doing with Android as of late.

There are ways to remove what you don't want without the hassle of flashing a new ROM. You have to be rooted, however.

Wait...Whaat? My phone isnt cool?

Every one seems to like when I play cable channels from slingbox. And when I hook up to the internet wirelessly with barnacle. Or when I pull up espn3 and watch a ball game. Or use urban spoon to find places to eat. Or use the nav app to get around to places. Or use TiKL to push to talk to some of my buds. or use skydroid to have a look at a far off golf course. Or order my mexican food with google translate. Or crank up the kindle app to read a bit at lunch. Or speak a google search. Or show everyone where Jupiter is with Google sky map. Or provide lunch music with pandora. Or....... Or.......

I am personally responsible for selling at least 5 D2's. But nah, it aint cool or anything.

Honestly i dont care. Thus phone is nice and all i would say its what the d1 should have been minus the bootloader and blur. But then again i didnt But this. Its you live your life looking didnt the coolest tech its newest you will been broke
