Does NFC drain the battery?

I am getting an S-View cover for my S7 Edge and since the case has a NFC receiver (for the front display features), I am wondering, will NFC drain the battery? It probably won't stay passive, as a simple flip of the cover will activate the NFC of the phone. So do you think it will damage the battery life (or the phone itself) in the long run? Thank you and appreciated.

So if I put the case on the phone but have the NFC of the phone turned off, won't the phone's NFC transmitter mess with the case's NFC receiver?

I used to keep it on all the time until I found out that Samsung Pay is smart enough to activate it just when I need to use it so now I leave it off. I don't think you'll notice that much of a difference. I've given up on trying to conserve battery on this phone. It really isn't that great unless you've got everything turned off, not push email, no Facebook notifications, etc. What's the point? I only get like 1 bar of service at work so it drains the **** out of my battery. I charge it overnight and then charge it before I leave work and I'm good. I don't care about the longevity of the battery because I get a new phone every year.

FYI, the drain for having it on is around 0.5% for the total battery cycle. Hardly worth turning off
