Does pentile make the screen not truly HD?

While this may be true, pure on paper spec discrimination is ridiculous. For instance, I don't care who you are, having worked extensively in HD production, the average person is not going to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a screen smaller than 60" and as an aside the average HD channel still broadcasts in 720p (obviously not talking about the ESPNs).
In a side by side comparison, I can and have been able to tell the difference. The average person might not see a difference (and it isnt a massive difference), but I definitely could.

I had the option of a 1080p display when I got my 27" TV I have in my bedroom. I ended up going with the 720p anyway....the differences were not enough to justify the extra money.

That's why the previous poster said it's best for people to see for themselves instead of basing everything off of people who seem to be actively trying to hate the phone.
I dont get why pointing out spec differences is "hate". Yes, there are obnoxious users on here emotionally invested in their phone choice...but simply pointing out a deficiency in a phone (however small) is not "hate" IMO.

Okay, obviously the point is still lost on you. The whole point is that on paper spec discrimination is really stupid. If people went purely by on paper specs they could very well get the worst phone for their specific needs.

Why is it an "either/or" thing? If someone said a new smartphone was awesome but had a 640x320 display, would you REALLY go through the trouble of testing it in real life before deciding you are not interested?

Specs do matter.

I didn't even bother to take a look at this thread until now. It looks funny. A decade old pentile debate on a phone with higher than 300ppi? Human eyes are limited to certain abilities, like 30fps, 300ppi, etc. Once technologic advancement of display panels reaches certain level, it does not really matter to bare human eyes. If you are going to tell me that you can clearly discriminate 326ppi of iPhone4S, 342ppi of Rezound, 316ppi of GN with your bare eyes, I would say this;

"Wow! You must be a mutant!"

Yes, pentile definitely has disadvantage, especially when ppi of the display is lower. However, once it goes above 300ppi, your eyes cannot tell.

Also, the term HD is not about ppi, rather about resolution itself. For example, all of those HDTVs have only 52ppi on 1080p 42" screen, and only 35ppi on 720p 42" screen. It's way way lower than what you see on your mobile phone display. A HDTV with highest ppi on the current market still has some submal ppi around 119. A desktop PC monitor with the highest ppi is still just around 138ppi.

For ppi information of each display equipment (either mobile or not), please refer to this;

Buying things for your specific needs at the time of purchasing is an irresponsible and inefficient way to consume. To get the most out of the products you buy, purchasing based on the greatest paper specifications is exactly what you should do, as you may then shift your life such that your needs fit what the product can offer. This way, your consuming becomes a catalyst for you to transcend your life by acclimating yourself to a more powerful product, and thus producing a more powerful and modern lifestyle for yourself and likely those you love.

I agree with you, but I dont agree with the limits. I can easily tell the difference between 30 and 60fps for example. Like even at a glance. (Example online - http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html). My sister got one of those new TVs that has an insanely high frame rate (like 100+), and it is an example of how more is not always better. It makes movies look like soap operas.

Yeah, I agree with this. I doubt almost anyone would be able to tell the difference.

Except that the actual "effective" PPI of the Nexus screen is around like 230 due to it being pentile and having less subpixels.

Which is exactly why millions of people bought the iPhone 4 while various, more powerful Android devices were on the market, and not only are happy with it, but will continue to be happy with it, likely more so than they would have been with the Android device.

Oh, wait.

Specs are not everything. Experience is a tangible benefit for many. You either see it or you don't.

At the speed tech is moving... doing any thing else might be an exercise in frustration... concerning hardware.

No one can really keep up, stay ahead of the hardware advances. To me, buying for your specific wants, needs is the smart, sane thing to do..IMO.

Huh? I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely NO sense. We are talking about phones that are almost identical in performance. When I say someone may pick the wrong phone for them if they go by paper specs I'm talking about stuff such as viewing in direct light. I had a Thunderbolt and it has an incredible screen. I know that HTC does really well with their screens, but the reason I didn't pick the Rezound is because the Thunderbolt screen is horrible in direct sunlight. Now every single screen is going to be harder to see in direct sunlight, but I have no issues seeing the Galaxy Nexus screen in direct sunlight.

So while technically the Rezound screen may be better in terms of resolution and clarity, I would hate it because I wouldn't be able to see the thing outside.

Um, I have to disagree with your point about purchasing goods, at least for electronics.

Purchasing a product with the greatest paper specification is very costly. Virtually all electronic merchandises tend to drop its price extremely fast for the first one or two years after its introduction, then it gradually slows down. With that trend in mind, purchasing the greatest paper specification on the current market even if you are not really in need of the highest spec may cause you unnecessary waste of your money.

Let's make an example. You want to buy a hard drive for your PC. You just need a fast drive to run your OS. You can store data into a lower speed drive separately. However, to comply with your statement, you will have to buy a highest capacity SSD on the market, which will probably consume several thousand dollars. If I were you, I would just buy a small sized SSD for a hundred bucks, and would buy another 3TB HDD for another hundred bucks. This was an example, but it pretty much applies to every electronic merchandises.

It doesn't make sense to you because you're not putting yourself in the shoes of someone who goes by such a philosophy of consumerism. If you had, you would have realized that the sunlight issue wouldn't be a problem because you would have acclimated to the product, and would have begun to dislike sunny places and enjoy dark places, and would avoid the sun, and would have thus eliminated the problem of sunlight visibility, and would have thus allowed yourself to enjoy the dark (which is better for your skin), and enjoy the superior resolution and clarity of the Rezound. You would have transcended yourself and improved your life.

I'm rather enjoying the philosophical side @Poopai has offered here. For once, *ONCE*, someone with a clear head, complex sentence construction, and decent grammar has offered the rest of us some thoughtful advice - on a technical forum no less. Rock on!

....Okay......

Okay, for those of you who don't think he's a troll and think he's not actively trying to hate this phone... this just proves it. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read/heard.
