Jj14x, where did you go overseas. I am planning on visiting Asia in October and would like for my phone to be able to have data, voice and texting capabilities. Some sprint forums have stated that the phone is capable of only voice and text after sprint unlocks it for you. Could you confirm that everything that I listed works overseas with the use of a local sim?

I talked with a Sprint tech at my local store and the SIM card used in the S4 is solely for LTE to work on the phone.

Yes but only internationally. Sprint will only unlock phones for international use. They will not unlock for domestic GSM (aka AT&T / T-Mobile).
